The Dean College men’s soccer team ended their season with an outstanding 17-2 record.

The Dean College men’s soccer team ended their season with an outstanding 17-2
record. In its first year as a four-year program, the team earned an at-large
bid as the number four seed in the United States Collegiate Athletic
Association’s (USCAA) National Tournament held in Virginia Beach, Virginia
November 10-14, 2016.
Bulldogs were placed in Pool D of the preliminary round with Florida National University,
the fifth seed, and Berkeley College of New Jersey, the ninth seed.
Thursday, November 10th, Dean fell short to FNU with a final score
of 2-1. Dean’s Justin Freitas scored with fifteen minutes to go in the contest.

lead all Dean scorers as the Bulldogs raced to a 4-0 halftime lead. However, the
outcome was not favorable for Berkeley (NJ), who were defeated on Saturday by
FNU 6-0, ending Dean’s tournament journey.

four members of the team (Brendan Pacheco, Isaac DeSouza, Justin Freitas and
Murilo Zanette) were recognized at the USCAA Championship banquet for making
the Men’s Soccer National All-Academic Team.

Main Stage in the Campus Center at Dean College, 99 Main Street, Franklin at

The men’s soccer team won their second round match-up this afternoon versus Berkeley College-NJ 6-0. We have to wait for results for the game tomorrow between Florida Nation and Berkeley College- NJ, to see if Dean moves on. Go Bulldogs!

With an outstanding 16-1
record in its first year as a four-year program, the Dean College men’s soccer
team earned an at-large bid in the United States Collegiate Athletic
Association’s National Tournament. The twelve-team tournament will be held in
Virginia Beach, Virginia from November 10-14, 2016.
“We are very excited to be
invited to the 2016 USCAA National Tournament,” said Head Coach Ruben Resendes.
“One of our goals this season was to be selected to this tournament, another goal
is to win it all, and we appreciate the opportunity to accomplish that.”
The Bulldogs were placed in
Pool D of the preliminary round with Florida University, the fifth seed, and
Berkeley College of New Jersey, the ninth seed. Winners of each pool will play
in the semifinals on Sunday, November 13th, with the championship game on

as much information as we can on our two opponents,” said Resendes. “My focus
is to make sure we are prepared in all phases of the game, technically,
tactically, physically and mentally. If we can accomplish all of this, we will
be giving our selves the best possible chance to be successful.”
Besides their 16-1 record,
the Dean Bulldogs were first in the USCAA in goals (99), assists (77) and goals
against average (0.18), giving up only three goals all year. They will begin
their quest for the national title on Thursday, November 10th at 2:00 pm when
they open with Florida University of Hialeah, Florida. Florida was 14-1 this
past season and were second in the USCAA in goals scored and sixth in goals
against average. Dean’s opponent on Friday at 2:00 will be Berkeley College of
New Jersey, the ninth seed. Berkeley was 10-6 this past season and lost to the
top seed, UMaine-Ft. Kent, 3-0. Dean
played Ft. Kent the following day and lost 2-0 for their only defeat of the
Offensively, Dean is led by
Leandro (Geo) Alves (Pawtucket, RI) who is 6th in the USCAA in goals (24), 2nd
in assists (14) and 3rd in points (88). Forward Justin Freitas (North
Attleboro, MA) is second on the team in goals with 14, followed by Sam Fonseca
(Brockton, MA) with 12. In goal, keepers Brenden Pacheco (Fall River, MA) and
Karim Mokhtar (Middleburg, FL) combined for a school record 14 shutouts.
