      Dean College Golfer Receives Medal at Region XXI Golf Tournament


      Freshman Austin McCreary, of Northampton, MA, finished as the top golfer at the Region XXI Men’s Golf Tournament this past Tuesday and Wednesday.

      McCreary shot a 74 on Tuesday, and followed that up with a 76 on Wednesday to capture the region’s top honors. His score helped Dean College finish second in the tournament, which included six colleges from throughout New England. Freshman Ryan Tinney, from Manchester, CT, finished as Dean’s second leading scorer with a two day total of 168 (84-84).

      McCreary score qualified him for the National Junior College Athletic Association’s DIII national tournament, being held June 2-6 at Chautauqua Golf Course in western New York. The top fifteen players from the tournament become NJCAA All-Americans.

      Dean College Administrative Offices Closed for Memorial Day, May 22 & 25, 2015


      Dean College administrative offices will be closed on Friday, May 22 and Monday, May 25, 2015 for Memorial Day.

      Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

      Dean College Children’s Center Open House, Tuesday, May 19, 2015


      Dean Children’s Center will host an Exploration Open House on May 19, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Parents of children 2 years old to 6 years are encouraged to bring their child to explore the school and learn about our program. Applications are being accepted for 5-day morning, 2-day morning, 3-day morning preschool programs or 4-day Pre-K program. 

      Innovative and progressive, the school is NAEYC accredited and well known in the community for an inspiring preschool experience. Dean Children’s Center is a lab school for ECE majors, with teachers-in-training alongside credentialed teachers. The center has a very professional and caring environment for children to learn through exploration. 

      The school uses a developmental approach to education which reflects current research in child development and peer conflict resolution. Director Faith Nickolas states “We are a regional resource to parents and educators on peer conflict resolution in young children and our lab school is a demonstration site for best practices in early education of children.”

      Dean College Football Alum Signed by Dallas Cowboys




      Dean College graduate Rodney “Lucky” Whitehead has been signed as a free agent by the Dallas Cowboys, following the recently concluded National Football League Draft.

      Lucky is a 2013 graduate of Dean College and a 2015 graduate of Florida Atlantic University. He is a native of Manassas, VA and Osbourn High School alumnus.

      During his time at Dean College, he earned first team All-American honors as well as first team All-Conference recognition at both wide receiver and return specialist. Lucky was recognized as the team's special team player of the year as a senior. “This is a tremendous accomplishment for Lucky,” said Todd Vasey, associate athletic director and head football coach at Dean College “It is really exciting to see all of his hard work, dedication, and perseverance payoff for him. Somehow I have a feeling the best is still yet to come.”

      Lucky is the second Dean alumnus within the last year connected with the NFL as D.J. Morrell, 2011 graduate and offensive lineman was signed by the Detroit Lions, and later moved on to the Buffalo Bills.

      “The Dallas Cowboys are fortunate to be getting such a talented, passionate young man with a sense of purpose and an appreciation for the value his academic background will bring to his game of football,” said Dean College President Dr. Paula M. Rooney. “Lucky is smart and ready for the challenge of the NFL. We are proud to say that he is a member of the Dean College Class of 2013.”

      Dean College Held 149th Commencement Exercises, May 9, 2015


      Dean College’s 149th Commencement Exercises took place on Saturday, May 9, 2015 on Awpie Way, in front of Dean Hall.

      Dean College proudly graduated 309 two- and four-year students during its 149th Commencement Exercises. Honors and degrees were bestowed upon these students.
