Dean College Snapshot of Employee Benefits

HEALTH CARE

Medical Coverage: Eligible employees and their eligible dependents can obtain medical coverage through the Tufts Health Plan HMO. Coverage is unlimited after various co-payments are met. Examples of co-payment include $20 for office visits, $250 for emergency room services and $10/$25/$45 for generic, preferred and non-preferred prescription drugs. Employees may purchase single, two-person or family coverage. Dean College covers 70-85% of the cost of this plan. Actual contributions are based on income with Dean College subsidizing more of the cost for employee earning less. Pursuant to Massachusetts Health Reform Law the plan will cover children until the earlier of their 26th birthday, or two full years beyond the year the employee claimed the child as a dependent on their tax return.

Dental Coverage: Dean College’s dental plan is underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The plan offers eligible employees and their eligible dependents comprehensive coverage for procedures performed by any dentist of their choice. Participants who use a dentist that participates in Blue Cross Blue Shield’s (BCBS) large provider network can take advantage of negotiated rates. The plan covers services as follows: 100% for preventive, 80% for basic and 50% for major restorative to a plan annual maximum per participant of $1,500 a year. In addition, orthodontic services are covered at 50% to $1,000 for dependent children. Employees can purchase single or family coverage. Even though the dependent age extension dictated by Massachusetts Health Reform Law does not apply to dental insurance, BCBS has agreed to cover children until the earlier of their 26th birthday or two full years beyond the year the employee claimed the child as a dependent on their tax return. Dean College contributes approximately 50% to the cost of this plan.
Vision Insurance: Eligible employees and their dependents can purchase vision coverage through the Vision Service Plan (VSP). The plan is voluntary and coverage includes exams and discounts on prescription glasses and contact lens care. Employees can chose from VSP’s vast network of optometrist and ophthalmologists.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS (FSA)

Health FSA:  This account allows you to shelter some of your income from taxes by setting aside funds in a pretax Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to purchase health supplies and services. When you or your eligible dependents incur eligible expenses (as defined by the IRS) that are not covered by any medical, dental or vision plan you participate in, you pay for the expense out-of-pocket and then submit a claim to receive a reimbursement from your account. Participants enjoy applicable Federal, State and FICA tax savings on contributions to the account.
Dependent Care FSA:  Dean College’s dependent care flexible spending account provides eligible employees with the opportunity to reduce up to $5,000 of annual taxable income by using pretax money to reimburse themselves for eligible dependent care expenses as defined by the IRS.

INSURANCE

Employee Life Insurance:  Dean College automatically provides eligible employees with 1.5 times annual salary of life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance to a maximum of $350,000. Benefits are paid to the employee’s named beneficiary in the event of the employee’s death. Employees can purchase supplemental life insurance for themselves or their dependents via payroll deduction.
Salary Continuation:  This benefit is provided by Dean College to eligible employees who are out of work due to a short term disability. It is designed to dovetail with the insured long term disability plan. Coverage equals 66 2/3% of base salary.
Long Term Disability Coverage: If an eligible employee is
disabled for more than 180 days, and has a long term disability claim approved, this coverage provides the employee with a benefit equal
to 66 2/3% of base salary up to a $10,000 maximum monthly benefit.
Long Term Care Insurance: This optional, employee paid
coverage provides benefits for various long-term care expenses, including home care or nursing home care. Interested employees meet one on one with the representative who reviews plan options
and pricing.

403(b) Retirement Plan: Eligible employees can save for retirement by contributing to the Dean College 403(b) plan offered through TIAA CREF.
