Dean, School of Business

Dean College invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the School of Business. We seek a dynamic, inspiring, visionary leader with experience building and sustaining associate and bachelor level programs in Business. The Dean will oversee all aspects of the College’s current associate degree in Business program. Additionally, as of May 4, 2010 Dean College received approval from the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education to offer a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Business.
Reporting directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Planning, the Dean is responsible for providing leadership, management, and oversight of all aspects of the School. The Dean represents the School within the College, and at state, regional and national levels. Core responsibilities include: program planning and development, with a focus on building the regional and national visibility of the bachelors program in order to grow enrollments at the B.S. level; collaboration with the Office of Admission on marketing bachelor and associate degree programs in the School; curriculum development, including coordinating course offerings each semester; hiring, training, and supervision of full- and part-time faculty in the School; internal program reviews; student learning outcomes assessment; and budget oversight. The Dean also teaches one to two courses each semester and will oversee the development and implementation of those distinctive programs and activities essential to the student learning and work experience in a Dean Business program.

Candidates must hold, at a minimum, a Master of Business Administration with strong preference given to candidates with an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or D.B.A.) in a Business or Business-related discipline from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or its international equivalent. A strong record of innovative program development, leadership and increasing administrative experience and responsibility ideally at the Department Chair level combined with a minimum of 7 years college-level teaching experience is required. Additionally, a record of professional accomplishment and experience in a business environment is strongly preferred. The ability to think strategically and work collaboratively regarding program development, faculty development, enrollment management, and resource management with the goal of growing programs within the School is critically important.

Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach


The Athletic Department at Dean College is currently looking for a candidate to assist with the women’s soccer program. This individual will assist in all aspects of a NJCAA Division I program, including recruiting, practice and game preparation, and the academic success of the student-athletes. The position is a part-time stipend position, and the candidate selected will be expected to assist in the recruitment of interested student-athletes for the fall 2010 academic class.

Qualifications   Candidates will be expected to have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred. College playing experience or coaching experience is preferred.

First Year Seminar Adjunct Instructor

Dean College has an opening for an adjunct instructor to teach two sections of First-Year Seminar (FYS 100) in the College’s Arch Learning Community, a program for students with documented learning disabilities. Required of all incoming first-year associate degree students, FYS 100 is designed to help students make a successful transition into college by teaching them the academic and personal strategies needed for college success. Opportunities to work also as an academic coach/learning specialist within the College’s Personalized Learning Services program may be available for qualified candidates.


Qualifications   A Master's degree in education, counseling, special education or a related field is required. Teaching experience is required, with a strong preference for candidates who have taught study strategies to students with diverse learning styles and learning challenges, including learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD.
Additional Information: All candidates must be available at the following times: MWF 11:00-3:00 pm and TTh 9:30-11:30 am. Total compensation is $6000.

Personalized Learning Services Part Time Academic Coach
Dean College is accepting applications for part-time academic coaches (professional tutors) for the fall 2010 semester. The academic coach at Dean College provides a strategy-based approach to academic support for students enrolled in Personalized Learning Services (PLS), a fee-based tutoring program open to all students at the institution. Academic coaches work with students to address immediate academic needs, while developing long-term independent skills in studying, reading, writing and mathematics. Academic coaches help students become independent learners and to eventually transition away from tutorial support. Time management, organization and long-term planning are some of the skills that students gain through their experience in PLS.

Qualifications  A Master’s degree in Math, Science, Special Education or related field is required and experience working with students with special learning needs, preferably at the college level. Preference will be given to those with math and science teaching or tutoring background.

Personalized Learning Services Part-time Evening Monitor/ Drop-in Tutor

Dean College is accepting applications for part-time evening monitor/drop-in tutor for the fall 2010 semester. The evening monitor is responsible for serving as the primary resource for students and staff visiting the Learning Center during Sunday and weekly evening hours. Responsibilities include: providing tutoring (writing support, math, and general study skills) to students seeking assistance with assignments on a drop-in basis; supervising the activity in the Learning Center; overseeing evening work study and peer tutoring students; and serving as a collaborative member of the Learning Center staff.

Qualifications  Master’s degree in Education or an academic discipline preferred. Must be able to work Sundays 3-10pm, Monday-Thursday 7-10pm, and one additional hour during the week for staff meetings.

Director of the Learning Center

Dean College has an immediate opening for a Director of the Learning Center. Under the direction of the Dean for Academic Support Services, the Director is responsible for the development, administration, assessment, evaluation and budget management of the programs and services within the Learning Center which includes: Personalized Learning Services (fee based individual or group tutoring designed to help students develop study strategies), course specific Learning Labs, Drop-in Tutoring, Peer Tutoring, Disability Support Services as well as the Arch Learning Community (an academic enhancement program for students with documented learning disabilities) and the Pathway Learning Community (an academic enhancement program for students transitioning to college). Responsibilities include: hiring, training and supervision of academic coaches and support staff. The Director will work closely with the Assistant Director to develop and provide academic support to all students. The Director will also work with professional and support staff, faculty and students to ensure compliance with Federal ADA regulations. This position requires excellent customer service and management skills, including interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with admissions, faculty and staff and able to interact with a diverse student body is essential.


Qualifications  A Master’s degree in education, psychology or a related field is required, Ph.D is preferred. Excellence in verbal and organizational skills; Five to seven years of progressive experience working with students with various learning styles in a collegiate setting. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in reading and interpreting psycho educational evaluations and other professional documentation and in determining appropriate accommodations for students with documented disabilities.

Assistant Director of Residence Life – Staff Programs
Dean College invites applications for an Assistant Director of Residence Life position. The Assistant Director is responsible for administering a variety of operational, educational, and counseling functions, which are all designed to foster personal development and a sense of community within the residential unit. The Assistant Director will assist the Director of Residence Life with all aspects of the Residence Life Program, as well as oversee the Community Advisor program. Other duties include:

-  Assist the Director of Residence Life with all aspects of the Residence Life Program.
-  Assist in the hiring and training of the professional members of the Residence Life staff
-  Supervise the part time Resident Directors
-  Responsible for recruitment, training, and supervision of Community Advisor (CA) staff, this includes, but is not limited to: 
           • A comprehensive year long training program consisting of Fall, and Winter Training, as well as  monthly in-services
           • Responsible for individual bi-weekly meetings with residence hall CA staff to provide support in areas of community development, discipline, personal and academic problem-solving, support for programming and general residence hall matters
          • Oversight of the Senior Community Advisor Program (inclusive of hiring, training and supervising)
-  Create, develop and maintain outreach opportunities and programs designed to strengthen the department's connection with residence hall students, student engagement and overall student development.
-  Manage and oversee the daily operations of assigned residential area by establishing objectives and direction for residence hall programming and building operations.
-  Counsel individual students or groups regarding personal issues and make appropriate referrals.
-  Participate in the Administrator on Call Rotation
-  Complete all administrative duties as assigned (including damage billing reports, weekly RD reports, building monitoring reports, etc.).
-  Educate students about College policies related to residence life and enforce those policies as necessary.
-  Facilitate/assist with the opening and closing of the residence halls as well as pre-determined occasions such as Housing Selection, Family Weekend.
-  Maintain residence hall facilities: do daily building walk-through, request maintenance needs, and follow up with the Facilities Department when needed.
-  Participate in all Residence Life training as required by the Director of Residence Life.
-  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications   A Master’s degree in Student Personnel/Counseling or related field preferred. 1-3 years residence life experience in the areas of student/staff supervision, recruitment and training. Commitment and ability to create and maintain a diverse, multicultural community. Demonstrated experience in multicultural issues with a focus on education and training. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, intervention and crisis management skills.
