2010 Team Builds Foundation For the Future
The Dean College Men’s Lacrosse program took a huge step in the right direction this season. First year Coach James Behrer snapped a 3 year winless streak to go 2-7 on the year. Not a winning record but after pulling off two convincing wins we made progress this year. I am proud of our players for their time and commitment to the program and their success will be celebrated. The Bulldogs opened up against Delhi for the first game this year and lost 18-12. With over ten minutes of penalties in this game it was a tough loss, confident that Dean had a chance the whole way through and then missed opportunities. Dean played well and certainly put forth our best effort. Morris was our second game and after only being down 8-5 at the half, we managed to lose 15-7. The Bulldogs racked up over sixteen minutes of penalties and we let a winnable game slip through our fingers. At this point we are 0-2 and had Monroe coming in the following week, they are talented team at each position and we lost 18-3. On our first and only road trip of the season we traveled to Genesee and Tompkins Cortland. After our nicest defender was ejected in the first three minutes against Genesee we were in for a long night, we lost 15-7. We knew going into the weekend that we had two opportunities to pull off a victory and we came to play against Tompkins Cortland the following day. The Dean College Bulldogs won 11-5 and had their first win in three seasons! We traveled home at 1-4 on the season and incredibly elated. Our celebration was short lived because we played Suffolk CC the next game and lost 19-5. At this point in the season we were playing with twelve players and couldn’t run and gun with the top teams in our conference or with stronger faster opponents. At 1-5 on the season we took on Cayuga CC at home and won convincingly 17-7, this was our first home win in over three seasons. Coach Behrer was incredibly happy for the players that they achieved this win on our home field in front of their loyal fans. Jefferson was next and after only being down 6-4 at the half and we lost 18-9. We had another game full of penalties and couldn’t right the ship. For our last game of the season we played Bridgton Academy and although in the fall we had a closer game with them, their face-off mid fielder was very talented and we had a hard time winning possession and lost 12-7. The Dean College Bulldogs finished with a 2-7 record and for 13-12 players it was a very impressive season and has laid the foundation for seasons to come.
