JayT Jenkins-

Creator of the "JAZZFUNK" style; international choreographer for feature films, industrials, music videos and for recording artist such as Jennifer Lopez, Salt N' Pepa, Prince; a Dean alumnus; currently on staff at Steps on Broadway, Alvin Ailey Studios and Mountclaire State University.

Dana Moore-

Performed in CHICAGO, FOSSE, A CHORUS LINE, SWEET CHARITY, ON YOUR TOES; teaches Theater dance at Steps on Broadway and at Broadway dance; travels worldwide teaching master classes in Jazz and Theater dance.

Jeff Shade-

Mentored by Fosse; co-winner of New York musical theater festival best choreography award; a dancer, soloist and choreographer in theatre and television; has taught at Harvard, The Boston Conservatory and Steps on Broadway.

Previous Opportunities

Alvin Ailey

Our dance majors have an opportunity available to only a few select colleges: to audition right at Dean for an Independent Study program with the world-renowned, nationally credited Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York. Candidates who are accepted into the selective and rigorous American Dance Center Summer Intensive Program earn college credit.

In the Fall of 2008 the School of Dance held Master Classes for our Senior B.A. dance majors. The workshops included talent agents from DDO Artist Agency and Paladino Casting from NYC. Choreographers will included Luis Salgado from "In the Heights" and Nu Style from New York City. These workshops were provided in conjunction with a partnership with Scene Interactive. Dance Extravaganza Five Minutes to Curtain

October 2004, featured Maurice Hines of Cotton Club fame as well as Footloose choreographer and Emmy winner AC Ciulla, and Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk dance captain Derick K. Grant. What brought the event home, however, was participation by choreographer Jay T. Jenkins, a 1977 graduate of Dean Junior College. Jenkins has distinguished his career plotting steps for Prince, Salt-n-Pepa, Chaka Kahn and Cyndi Lauper, among others.

Before anyone took to the stage, the pros offered Dean’s 160 dance majors a taste of what it’s like in the real dance world.

Every dance major was invited to take part in the sessions. The four pros later determined which students would be invited to perform in the program finale, a show that featured solo performances by the four pros.

Jay T. is choreographer for his Dance Company, Jetté, in New York City. He is also an alumnus of the American College Dance Festival (ACDF) and has choreographed for film, foreign artists, music videos, and concert tours.

Being a musician gives him an edge when it comes to staging live musicians for concert tours, giving them movement without taking anything away from their playing.

Jay T. uses the thematic schemes of concert dance and encompasses them with commercial dance. His ability to combine different styles and aspects of dance gives him the unique ability of being able to relate to and stage even non-dancers and make them feel at ease at whatever they are.
