Franklin, MA -- April 11 -- The tense courtroom drama "Twelve Angry Jurors" will conclude the 2010-2011 Dean College theatre season. The production, which opens on April 13, will be presented in the College's black box studio space located in the Performing Arts Studio on School Street in Franklin.
Twelve Angry Jurors is a stage adaptation of Reginald Rose’s 1954 teleplay, 12 Angry Men and depicts a jury forced to reconsider its nearly unanimous verdict by a single hold out who manages to sow a seed of reasonable doubt. The play begins after closing arguments have been completed in a homicide case, as a judge is giving final instructions to the jury. The play examines the various conflicts arising between 12 people charged with delivering justice in a case where personal prejudice and varied life experiences color their judgment. The play is being directed by Michael LoCicero, a Dean College alum who has been pursuing a career in film and stage since graduating from Dean.
The play is being produced as a process piece where production values such as set and costumes have been deemphasized in favor of highlighting the script and the actors. “It’s a way to give the students an opportunity to sink their teeth into a meaty play that fits smoothly into are production schedule”, said Jim Beauregard Dean College’s technical director. “We take pride in our high production values here but theater can be just as powerful when done simply,” Beauregard continued. “Great theatre only requires three things, a script, some actors and an audience.”
Tickets are available by calling the box office at 508-541-1606 or by visiting the Dean College website at www.dean.edu/performance . The show plays April 13, 15, 16 at 7:30 PM, April 14 at 6:30PM and Sunday April 17 at 2PM.
