Dean College Football Ready to Kick-Off Season
August 27, 2012Looks to Build on 2011 Top 10 National Ranking
Having the distinction of being the only two-year football program in New England, theDean College Bulldogs have a unique place in the local community and Coach Todd Vasey is encouraging the community to come support the team.
“Many local residents don’t realize what a quality program we have here at Dean,” says Coach Vasey. “We recruit the entire east coast and points west in search of the best character students that we can find who will also excel on the football field. And my coaching staff is second to none.”
In 2011, Dean completed one of its finest seasons in the College’s history, finishing the year at 8-1 and ranked 8th in the final National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll.
The Bulldogs capped off its season with a victory over Glendale Community College in the Valley of the Sun Bowl in Arizona.
As the page turns to 2012, Coach Vasey is hoping to build on last year’s success while having to replace at least ten student-athletes who were able to take their football and academic skills to either Division One or 1-AA programs, including Utah State, Bethune-Cookman, Central Connecticut, URI, Akron, Towson and Old Dominion.
The Bulldogs return many key contributors from last year’s team and come into this season ranked 14th by the NJCAA in its initial pre-season poll, so expectations are once again high.
“We had some key losses, but we have a number of returning and first-year players that show a lot of promise. The nature of this program is to constantly strive to be the best and that is what we are expecting again this season,” says Coach Vasey.
All home games begin at either 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM and are played minutes from the Dean campus at Longley Field on Maple Street in Franklin, MA. Home games for this season are:
