As he prepared to open Tuesday’s trading day at the New York Stock Exchange to recognize the business growth of his company, Arrow Investment Advisors, Dean College alumnus Joseph Barrato II (Class of `85) provided a shout out to his college president Dr. Paula Rooney, e-mailing Rooney, “I’m happy to report that a former Dean graduate will be ringing the opening bell of the NYSE… which proves just how far a Dean education can take you.”
Barrato graduated Dean with an A.A in Liberal Studies and then went on to get his B.S. in Business Administration at George Washington University. He remains an active and proud member of Dean’s Alumni Association. Today he is founder, CEO and Director of Investment Strategies at Arrow Investment Advisors, and advisor to Arrow Funds, a nationally regarded mutual fund company.
Mr. Barrato says the honor of opening a day’s trading on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange runs far deeper than just reflecting the success of his company. “In an era of enormous economic volatility, at a time when getting a college degree can be challenging, it is important for the Dean student to appreciate that real career success is still very much within reach providing they embrace their college education. I was fortunate to be a Dean student and that foundation gave me a place upon which to build to this stock exchange milestone.”
Dr. Rooney stated, “Tuesday’s Wall Street opening bell is sending a signal to every Dean student that their opportunities are limitless. Joe’s remarks remind our student body that they are provided with the intellectual tools to build a career that can literally take them anywhere. With faculty that focus on the individual there is a Dean difference that creates the personal focus and career momentum that makes a profound difference in the lives of our students.”
Barrato said he is proposing to Dr. Rooney that they create the Dean College “Bell Ringers” Club that networks with Dean students and college alumni so that they are ready to follow him to the floor of the exchange to open a day’s trading in tribute to their own corporate success.
