WSN gives out four scholarships in partnership with Dean College

June 8, 2011

On Wednesday, June 1st, the Women’s Success Network (WSN) awarded four scholarships of a total amount of $6,700 at their June dinner at Franklin Country Club.  For nearly 25 years, WSN’s Founders Scholarship Fund has provided annual scholarships to women who desire to advance or change their career through education and training.  The award is named in honor of WSN’s founding members.  Without the vision of that small group of dedicated women who gathered in the spring of 1985 there would not be a Women’s Success Network today.  They committed their time and energy to help WSN grow and thrive over time and our mission is Women Helping Women – Professionally and Personally.

The scholarship is funded through the sale of raffle tickets at our monthly meetings, a special Time, Talent and Treasures Auction, the donations of WSN members, Pure Networking events and other fund-raising efforts.  Each year, through an application process, individuals are asked to demonstrate their needs, define their goals, and explain how the money will be used when applying for the scholarship.

In close partnership with Dean College’s School of Professional & Continuing Studies, who co-sponsors two of the scholarships, the recipients of 2011 were Danielle Lesperance (Dental Assistant certification), Sandra O’Keefe (pursuing her MS in Public Health), Carolyn Depoto (prerequisites at Dean College to begin a MS in Speech Language Pathology) and long-time WSN member Martha Whyte (Human Resource certificate at Dean College.) WSN would like to thank WSN member Renee Vachon Danho of Dean College who has led the Scholarship Committee for the past two years, her committee, all who helped with this project and the individual contributors as well.
