Technology
The Business Technology program combines two distinct but related fields: technology and business. It is our goal to provide a hands-on education that develops and advances business concepts and technology using case study methods with real business problems and applications. Our program offers an educational experience that develops business and technology skills within a learning environment that prepares and supports students for continuous learning. To support our goals, students work, study, and become part of our campus community that provides technology used to enhance excellence in learning, teaching, and service.
The Business Technology major has been carefully designed to provide students with a curriculum that offers transferable courses combining both business and technology. Students are given the opportunity to learn current business theories and develop necessary skills such as problem solving, communications, management, and technology.
The general skills required for Business Technology majors in their freshman and sophomore years are the following:
- effective written and oral communication,
- computer concepts and applications,
- project management and web development,
- mathematics, accounting, and quantitative,
- fundamental knowledge of business, economics, and social sciences.
Through Dean College’s on-campus Independent Study program, students will also gain valuable hands-on experience by working with technology in a business setting.
Students may complete a baccalaureate degree in Information Systems on the Dean College campus through the SUFFOLK/DEAN Program.
In recent years, Business Technology majors have transferred to such institutions as Bentley College*, Bridgewater State College*, Bryant University*, Central Connecticut State University, Framingham State College*, Morehouse College, Nichols College*, Northeastern University*, Suffolk University*, University of Maine, Worcester Polytechnic Institute*
*Formal transfer agreements exist with these colleges.
