Possible Careers
- Arts Management/Administration
Arts Management majors can be completed at the undergraduate level. Students will complete coursework in business theory and practice and apply it to the specific operating conditions of orchestras, theaters, opera companies, dance companies, museums, and other nonprofit and commercial arts institutions.
Choreography is typically found as part of a dance major in a Bachelor degree program. Choreography and dance composition focuses on creating dance movements for performances.
Dance majors will study technical skills ballet, modern, jazz, and tap as well as dance studies such as dance history, dance composition, pedagogy, film survey in dance, character study, and more. The liberal arts component of the School of Dance at Dean College allows for additional general education study. (See below for minors)
Movement/Dance Therapy is mostly a graduate level program though introductory coursework is available at select colleges in the undergraduate level. As an undergraduate, students should concentrate coursework in dance and psychology. Movement therapy programs prepare a student to become a licensed counselor who uses dance/movement as a modality for change and healing.
- Theatre Arts/Drama/Musical Theatre
Theatre majors study acting techniques, stage management, directing, stage lighting, costuming, set design, and script writing. Some programs may include specializations in voice and dance performance within the major.
