Communications and Journalism, with a concentration in Public Relations*
The Communication and Journalism Department at Suffolk University offers creative study and development of communication activities through the baccalaureate degree. The concentration in Public Relations in the SUFFOLK/DEAN program offers a vital focus on the growing needs for clear, responsible communication by corporations and organizations with their various publics. Our professional focus helps students gain the knowledge and practical skills necessary for the 21st century’s complex needs.
Public Relations Four-Year Sequence
General Studies
The Bachelor of Science in General Studies gives students a strong foundation in the Social Sciences. Students take 44 credits from courses in Communication, Education, Government, Psychology or Sociology. This program allows students to pursue a minor in any of the five offered programs. It is a great fit for students studying liberal studies at Dean College.
Psychology
The Baccalaureate degree in Psychology offered through the SUFFOLK/DEAN program provides students with the opportunity to explore numerous aspects of individual experience including cognition, emotion, motivation, learning and memory. Further, the field examines the development of the person across the life span, in terms of understanding the emergence of normal and abnormal patterns of individuals and groups. Since the psychology major has relevance for many career paths, we encourage students to explore their interests of psychology with other disciplines (e.g. Law, Education, Management, Government, Sociology.) Exciting research opportunities exist for students at all levels. These research tutorials involved the student in many of the hands-on elements of research, and thus provide excellent training for students preparing for graduate study in the field of psychology.

Sociology/Crime and Justice, or General Sociology
The Sociology Department offers a challenging and stimulating curriculum that prepares students to engage as critical thinkers and active citizens within a diverse global society. This major is an integrated program of study that combines a broad curriculum within sociology with an option to specialize in specific concentrations within the major.
