Academic Advising

The advising structure at Dean College is designed to allow our students an opportunity to take responsibility for their own academic achievement while also utilizing the specialized skills of our Advising Center staff. Each individual student maintains a relationship with a personal advisor based on their personal and professional interests. This relationship begins within students’ first days on campus at New Student Orientation, and continues every step of the way as students navigate their way towards achieving collegiate success.

At Dean, each individual student is not just an enrollment number. No one should go at it alone, and that's why a personal advisor is always available to each student because unlike many other schools whose advisors are also faculty members, we have dedicated full-time Academic Advisors. Our Academic Advisors believe in their students, stay with them for the duration of the student’s time at Dean, and help turn academic potential into achievement

Advisors regularly meet with students one-on-one to help each student:

Select a major
Monitor academic success
Map out a class schedule
Research transfer opportunities upon graduation
Explore career goals and internship opportunities

When Do Students Meet with Their Advisor?

Advisors can help answer the following questions:

Am I in the correct major?
Should I enroll in four or five classes?
What should I do if I’m struggling in class?
What career path develops with a particular degree?
Should I continue on to Dean’s four year program?
What do admissions counselors look for when transferring?
How do I apply to transfer to a different four year program?
