Alvin Ailey Independent Study

Dean College has had a unique relationship with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre for sixteen years.  Nearly two-hundred students have been accepted into the Summer Intensive or Certificate Program. We are one of the few colleges that host private auditions with the Alvin School for their summer pre-professional training program. If accepted, Dean students earn college credit as they partake in a rigorous 6 week program at the Ailey School in NYC.

Dean students chosen for the 2012 Ailey Intensive attended the 6-week program in New York City to study with the dance world’s finest. Said Abbey Hemmen, a 2012 participant,“Ailey’s summer intensive was a truly amazing experience and it gave the words hard work and dedication new meaning. Not only did I have the opportunity to work with such talented instructors, I had the opportunity to dance beside some extremely talented dancers. This experience made me a stronger dancer and it is an experience I will never forget.”
