School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is committed to providing students with the solid foundation needed to thrive in a complex, competitive, and constantly changing world -- the power to think critically and creatively, the ability to communicate effectively, an understanding of the distinctions as well as connections between various disciplines, the skills needed to learn continuously throughout their lives.

These skills, coupled with in-depth knowledge in a specific subject area, prepare graduates from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences for their next steps -- completing a bachelor degree, attending graduate school, and moving into the array of careers awaiting them throughout their lives.

The School, the largest on campus, offers 11 associate degree majors and a bachelor degree in Liberal Arts and Studies. The School also teaches the liberal arts courses that all students, regardless of major, must complete to earn a Dean College degree.

This School is divided into two departments:

  • The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, which provides a bachelor degree major in Liberal Arts and Studies, as well as associate degree majors in Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, English, History, Liberal Studies, Psychology, and Sociology.

  • The Department of Math, Science, and Sport/Fitness Studies, which offers associate degree majors in Environmental Science, Health Sciences, Math/Science, and Sport/Fitness Studies.
