Franklin, MA – March 11, 2008 – Dean College Board of Trustees Chairman, Michael Jones has announced that Paula M. Rooney, Ed.D., President of Dean College, has been named recipient of the 2008 National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) President’s Award. NASPA is the national organization of student affairs professionals in higher education.
The award is a special recognition given to a college or university president who has, over a sustained period of time, advanced the quality of student life on campus by supporting student affairs staff and programs. Nominees must show evidence of direct involvement in enhancing the quality of student life on campus, active attempts to involve students and student life staff in governing the institution, and demonstrable contributions to the profession which have an impact beyond an individual campus.
“We are proud of Paula and are glad to see her receive the national recognition she deserves,” said Jones. “She is a tireless advocate for Dean, and a volunteer to numerous professional and not-for-profit organizations. Since coming to the College, she has placed us on fiscally solid ground, doubled enrollment and launched two baccalaureate degree programs, while more than tripling our endowment.”
Dean’s Trustees also honored Dr. Rooney with a resolution recognizing her dedication and vision for the College and applauded her many successes and challenges since she was named President in 1995. She received her undergraduate degree from Framingham State College and her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University. Dr. Rooney came to Dean from Babson College where she was Vice President for Student Affairs. Prior to that she was Vice President of Student Services at Reed College in Oregon; and Associate Dean of Students, Dean of Freshmen and a lecturer at Colgate University in New York. Dr. Rooney received the award at the NASPA national conference in Boston on March 11.
