A Campus Work and Learn Experience

Putnam and Dean College:   A Work and Learn ExperienceDean College is committed to providing students with work and learn opportunities that are exceptional. Through a unique partnership with world-renowned Putnam Investments, Dean College and Putnam have created a Work and Learn Program - an off-campus opportunity to work, earn income, gain valuable work and business experience, and learn about the ever changing mutual fund industry.

Students work at Putnam Investments Franklin location. To date, over 449 students have participated in the program with many transitioned on to full-time careers with Putnam.

Work and Learn students process work ranging from a simple address update to million dollar cash investments. While working at Putnam Investments, students are expected to adhere to Putnam's high quality standards. The Work and Learn management staff provides quality training and technical support to the students daily.

Since its  inception, several alumni have accepted full-time positions at Putnam Investments. Retirement Plan Services Production Coordinator, Greg Pelletier, is one such person.

"It's not the team with the best players, it's the players with the best team"--Greg's statement exemplifies what the overall feeling is at the Pathway. Teamwork plays a large role in the daily routine of the students.

Student Justin Marchand, shared his feelings after only a few months in the program. "I feel as though Putnam Investments is an excellent choice for any Dean student: the hours are incredibly flexible, the work environment is meticulously clean and paperless, and the employee benefits are tough to beat."

Success is measured by the level of professional education that the students receive. Professional Skills Workshop, Communication Skills, Resume Building, Transitioning to a Professional Work Environment, and Interviewing Skills are just some examples of classes designed to help the students progress throughout their career at Dean and Putnam.

Other benefits that Work and Learn students enjoy include:

Work and Learn students range from 18-19 year olds to mature adults returning to school. This program offers a flexible work schedule based around classes and for continuing education students an opportunity to rejoin the workforce.

Putnam/Dean partnership and management staff is dedicated to developing the students on a technical and professional level. We take great pride in seeing the students evolve and grow into valuable Putnam employees.

History of Work and Learn Program
The Putnam/Dean Partnership began in May 1996 when Dean College president Paula Rooney approached Bob Lucey about creating a relationship between the college and Putnam. Focused on a "Work and Learn" principle, students earn competitive wages and also have the opportunity to attend Professional Skills Workshops offered by Putnam and Dean personnel.

What Putnam/Dean Pathway Students Have to Say

"The Putnam/Dean Pathway program gave me the opportunity to re-enter the workforce while pursuing computer related courses in the Continuing Ed program at Dean College"

--Myra Eccher, former Dean student

"The opportunity to succeed in a professional work environment here at Putnam is attainable, it's a chance to expand your knowledge in the field of business. Coming into the program I knew nothing about investing or how the stock market really worked but Putnam helped give me the understanding I lacked. Putnam isn't just working in a cubicle for hours, it's a learning experience that you will walk away remembering."
--Matt Himminghoefer

"Putnam Investments has helped me to apply what I have learned in the classroom to real life. It has given me the motivation to develop a better understanding of the business world. The staff and the flexibility of hours provided a desirable environment for students."
--Nancy O'Rourke
