Bulldogs Edge Gateway
Sophomore Drew Roberts (New Haven, CT) scored 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds to lead Dean College to a 77-75 win over Gateway CC on Sophomore Day in Pieri Gymnasium. Gateway rallied from 9 points down with under 2 minutes to play, but the comeback fell short when Deondre Starling (Cambridge, MA) drew a charging foul with 3 seconds remaining. Starling had an outstanding game with 16 points (8-8 from the floor) and 13 rebounds. Point guard Calvin Curry (Chesterfield, MI) added 9 assists with only 1 turnover. Nathaniel Campbell (Bridgeport, CT) led Gateway with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Roberts and fellow sophomores Ronnie DeBarros (New Bedford, MA), Chris Marshall (Cedar Hill, TX), Mike Murkidjanian (Burlington, MA), and manager George Garcia (Boston, MA) were honored in a pre-game ceremony. At half-time, Dean College recognized its outstanding scholar-athletes, including two members of the men's basketball team - John Horowitz (Ocean Beach, NY) and Deven Richardson (South Orange, NJ).
The Bulldogs (14-9) travel to Mass Bay CC on Wednesday for their final regular season game. Game time is 7 pm. Gateway falls to 15-6. (Read More)
