Dean College Men’s Soccer Final Results USCAA National Tournament, November 9-13, 2017

The Dean College Men’s Soccer team finished their USCAA National Tournament run on Sunday, November 12th, falling to Bryant & Stratton in the semifinals.

The team defeated Florida College in the first round, followed by SUNY-ESF in the second round of the tournament, but came up short on game three.

      Semifinal Recap:

In what turned out to be a marathon match that took more than three hours to complete, the Bulldogs best scoring chance came in the 62nd minute when Cristiano Martins (Brockton, Mass.) chased down a ball and sent a sliding pass across the box to Felipe Campos (Barnstable, Mass.) but his shot sailed over the crossbar.

The match was incredibly physical with 18 fouls called and 13 yellow cards being assessed.

Bryant & Stratton looked as if they might get on the board in regulation a few times but Nathan Silveira (East Providence, R.I.) was able to make several spectacular stops, including one late in regulation that he was able to deflect over the crossbar.

In the extra sessions, the Bobcats depth began to show as they controlled play in both ten minute periods, outshooting the Bulldogs 10-0 in that time frame.

Both teams came out scoring on their penalty kicks and Dean was 8-for-8 until their ninth shooter was turned aside by a fantastic save from backup netminder Edixon Castillo, which set the stage for McGibbons' heroics.

For the Bulldogs, they see their five-match winning streak and their season come to an end in what can be considered an instant classic.

Overall, the Cardinal and White finish at 16-1-3, won a share of the regular season conference title, advanced to the national semifinals and had four student-athletes earn All-America honors.

      11/07/2017

THIS SHOW IS NOW SOLD OUT! WE LOOK FORWARD TO AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE FROM OUR STUDENTS!

Dean College Presents: Legally Blonde, November 15-19, 2017

The School of the Arts at Dean College will perform Legally Blonde, beginning Wednesday, November 15 through Sunday, November 19, 2017.

Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film of the same name, Legally Blonde tells the story
of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner.
Right from the start, Elle encounters negative reactions from both the establishment and the university’s students. During this musical, however, she not only discovers that her knowledge of the law can help others, but she also realizes an equally important faith in herself.

Clive Barnes, in his New York Post review, wrote that he loved the "effervescent and radiant Laura Belle
Bundy” (the original Elle Woods), and that the "dances certainly have a slick snap, crackle, and pop."

The Dean College production of Legally Blonde will take place in the Main Stage in the Campus Center
at Dean College, 99 Main Street, Franklin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday and 2:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. General admission is $22, Seniors $12 and Children $7.

Dean College Announces Partnership with DanceAbroad Argentina

      11/01/2017

Dean College Announces Partnership with DanceAbroad Argentina

Dean College and DanceAbroad Argentina are excited to announce a unique collaboration that blends intensive language immersion and concentrated studies in dance in the vibrant capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires, beginning in January 2018.

Dean College and the Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance, known nationally and internationally for its Bachelor of Arts and new Bachelor of Fine Arts programs in Dance, is DanceAbroad Argentina’s exclusive collegiate partner. Participating college dance majors from any college or university will earn up to fifteen college credits during this collaborative full-semester academic program. Courses of instruction include Tango technique and its history, as well as ballet, modern dance, jazz, dance composition, and Spanish language coursework at either the beginning, intermediate or advanced level.

“Through class experience, guest lecturers, instructor collaboration and cultural exchange we strive to instill an intimate knowledge of dance, culture, art, and the interrelations among them,” said DanceAbroad Argentina Program Director, Nathan Moyer. “Ultimately, our students learn to make connections by themselves between lived experience and dance technique, as well as between their own cultural knowledge and the changing world around them.”

“DanceAbroad Argentina gave me my very first opportunity to travel outside of the United States and experience a new culture on my own,” said Sarah Fuller, Dean College alumna. “First arriving in Buenos Aires, everything seemed different; from the language, to the food and architecture. As I adjusted to this new environment, I learned many things about myself that I would have never realized without this program.”

DanceAbroad staff and students will attend cultural events and participate in tours around the city of Buenos Aires. Excursions are a great way for students to also experience the natural beauty of Argentina and beyond, and students have opportunities to enjoy day and overnight excursions to other destinations in Argentina and neighboring countries.

“There are many study abroad programs, but they seldom include dance,” said Marc M. Arentsen, dean of the Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance at Dean College. “Through Dean College’s partnership with DanceAbroad Argentina we can now offer our dance students and those from other institutions a study abroad opportunity that is specifically designed around dance. Studying and living in another country opens your eyes to not only the local culture, but it also makes you more aware of your own background and bias. More importantly, it helps you realize what you have in common! Dance itself is universal, but to experience it in a different context will be enormously enriching to everyone involved and will present all of us with opportunities to see each other differently.”

This exclusive study abroad program for dancers in Buenos Aires, Argentina, will start in January 2018 and will continue in subsequent spring semesters.
