  • 6 Tips to Prepare for the Dean Dash 5K

    Dean Dash 2017

On Saturday, April 21st, 2018 Dean College is hosting the 5th Annual Dean Dash 5K Race. We are looking forward to welcoming over 250 runners, joggers, and walkers for a day of entertainment, games, food music, and, of course…running!

We want to make sure you’re prepared for the 3.1 mile trek around our local Franklin community.

Read on for a few tips on how to prepare for the 5K race!

    1. Register. Runners who register in advance receive a $5 discount, and are guaranteed to receive a race t-shirt. You can still register the day of the race but prices will increase by $5. Click here to register now!

    2. Practice. Whether you are a seasoned race enthusiast or a 5K first-timer it is important to train to some capacity before the race. Build a good aerobic base by going for a run at least a few times during the weeks approaching the race. For beginners, focus on how long you are running versus the distance you are running.

    3. Get a good pair of running shoes. Come race day, make sure you have a pair of running shoes broken in and ready to go. Do not try and run or walk the race in sandals, boots, or another type of footwear. This is dangerous and could lead to injury.

    4. Know when to arrive. Get to the race early! You’ll need to find parking, check-in at the registration table, and pick-up your race bib and other goodies. Parking is available at the Dean Hall parking lot, and racers should arrive no later than 12:15 p.m. at the registration table.

    5. Know what to bring. Bring your photo ID to the registration table for check-in. If you registered for one or more people beside yourself, make sure you either have the person(s) with you, or their names ready when you get to the registration table.

6… And what not to bring. We’ve got food and drink covered! We will provide water at two hydration stations along the course. Additionally, we will be providing a delicious lunch of grilled burgers, hot dogs, salad, a fruit station and Gatorade at the end of the race. There will be a bag check area available that will be monitored and staffed at all times, but we will only be able to check the drawstring bags we provide to you during check-in, so leave your backpacks, purses and other bags behind!

    6. Relax! Don’t get nervous the night before the race! This is a fun event for students, families, local community members, staff, faculty and more! Just focus on having fun with the Dean College community on a day to be remembered!
