  • The Palladino School of Dance Celebrates 50th Anniversary with World of Dance Master Classes

    2014 marks the 50th Anniversary of The Palladino School of Dance here at Dean College.  In celebration of the anniversary year, World of Dance spring master classes have been created.  The series of classes are taught by renowned dance professionals.  Check out the schedule of events below!  All classes listed are open to the public, ages 15 and up.  Scholarships are available.  For more information on World of Dance, visit or contact Tracy Lane at (508) 541-1606 or email

    February 13th - Theresa Howard will teach contemporary dance.   The class is $25 per person and will be offered at the Guidrey Center from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 1:10-2:40 p.m.  Theresa Howard has danced with The Dance Theatre of Harlem, and was a founding member of Armitage Gone! Dance. She has appeared as a guest artist with Donald Byrd/The Group and Complexions Contemporary Dance Company. 

    February 21st -22nd – Dance Momentum weekend.  Choreographers’ Concert on Friday, February 21st at 8:00 p.m. in the Guidrey Center, featuring Dean College dance students and renowned guest choreographer judges.  The College will host master classes on February 22, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  The $70 fee includes lunch and your choice of attending one to all four classes.  The two-day dance event features David Parker teaching a modern technique class with elements of choreographic investigation, Nyama McCarthy Brown teaching Afro-modern, Marc Kimelman teaching Hip Hop, and Martin Lofsnes teaching traditional modern technique.

    March 2nd - The School of Dance will welcome Cirque Du Soleil dancers with the Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour.  Dancers include Shondra Weinberg, a Dean College alumna, who will teach Contemporary Modern dance from 4:00-5:30 p.m. and dancer Pom Arnold, who will teach Hip Hop dance from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  Classes are $25 per person and will be held in the dance studio at the Guidrey Center.

    April 2nd - Shura Baryshnikov will lead a Contact Improvisation master class at PAS Studio from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. The fee for this class is $25.  Shura is a dance instructor in the Brown/Trinity MFA Programs and at the Festival Ballet Providence School. Recent choreographic work includes Brown/Trinity MFA productions of Tango and Rhinoceros, A Christmas Carol for Trinity Repertory Company, and movement consulting for Trinity's Social Creatures.  She is also a member of the Providence modern dance company Aerplaye.

    April 26th - The final master class of the semester will be a jazz and tap class led by Jeff Shade, a protégé of Bob Fosse, who has performed with Broadway’s Sweet Charity and Chicago.  He is faculty of Harvard University, the Boston Conservatory, Marymount Manhattan College, and Point Park University.  Shade has also appeared on numerous TV shows and specials, including the Rosie O’Donnell Show and Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.  The class will be held from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the Guidrey Center and Room 214 in the Campus Center.
