Dean College

  • Fall 2018 Semester Review

We have hit our halfway mark of the 2018-2019 academic year! As we approach our spring semester, here is a look back at our fall semester.

The semester kicked off the first week of September with new and returning students moving in and attending the Welcome Back BBQ, our annual outdoor celebration that students, faculty, and staff alike enjoy.

As students settled in, it was time to figure out what extracurricular activities they might like to be a part of. The Student Involvement Fair showcased a variety of offerings for students to be active in campus life. Auditions kicked off as well for dance and performing arts groups and shows.

Homecoming weekend welcomed alumni and families back to campus. To kick things off, this year’s inductees to the Dean College Hall of Fame were celebrated for their athletic achievements. The weekend was full of sporting events, live performances, and of course food!

The fall season for our Bulldog athletic teams was filled with firsts, returns, and recognition. The men’s cross country team won the program’s first-ever NECC Championship in late October. Field hockey returned to action after a 20-year hiatus, and football finished their season at 5-5 as freshman quarterback Terrell Watts was named ECFC Rookie of the Year and junior Shannon Moxey earned All-New England honors.

Our Leadership in Action series launched their season with a wide variety of speakers in the Wasserstrom Dining Room. TJ Paparazzo ’96, Director of Sales, Northeast at IntSights Cyber Intelligence, informed our students about cybersecurity. Jennifer Row, (ADA) Director of the Crime Prevention Unit for Norfolk County, spoke to our students about her career and how to excel in your chosen field. The fall series wrapped up with a lively talk by Deven Apajee, New England Revolution Academy Director. He spoke to students about how much he has grown the program since taking over and gave students numerous career tips.

As for campus life, there was never a dull moment. Students had a wide variety of after-class activities to choose from. The intramural sports season kicked off for basketball and dodgeball. Students also had their pick of movie nights, laser tag, video game tournaments, a ghost hunter, and many more activities around campus. Our student performances were also on the evening agenda. This fall we held our Arts Mosaic, along with two theatre performances – Scapino! and Footloose, the Musical. We also continued our traditions of Thanksgiving Dinner, our Veterans Day Ceremony, and the Annual Tree Lighting. Wrapping up the semester was the Late Night Breakfast, where students took a break from studying for finals and enjoyed a late night feast!

We can’t wait to find out what next semester will bring. See you back here for Spring 2019!
