Come Celebrate 50 Years of Dance at Dean College with a performance by Company Gold on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. in the Guidrey Center on campus. Award winning faculty and guest choreographers set work on our best dance majors,showcasing their talent in hip hop, jazz, modern, tap, and ballet pieces. This culminating concert of the year impresses with a high level of dancing and vivid choreography. Our 50th anniversary celebration of Company is not to be missed!

Join Dean College on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 12:00 noon for a day of exercise and fun at the Dean Dash 5K! The event is open to students, faculty/staff, alumni, family, and friends! This 5K course will feature refreshment stations at the 1 and 2 mile marks as well as snacks and entertainment at the finish line.
Entry Fee: $5 for students, $10 for staff/faculty/Dean family, friends, and alumni
Benefit: Scholarship for an Associate Degree student in Sport Fitness Studies/Athletic Training

The Dean College Leadership Institute is pleased to welcome Bianca de la Garza, renowned Boston newscaster, for the Executive Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Bianca de la Garza is an integral part of NewsCenter 5's "EyeOpener" newscast, but recently announced that she plans to leave the station for her "dream job," which is opening her own production company, Lucky Gal Productions. She is known for her investigation into environmental terrorism in New England, which earned her a New England Emmy nomination. De la Garza has reported on everything from breaking news to Hollywood red carpet affairs. A graduate of Emerson College, de la Garza spends her free time volunteering for children's organizations, such as the Girl Scouts of America and St. Jude's Hospital.

Arts at Dean College will perform Spring Awakening
beginning Wednesday, April 2, 2014 through Sunday, April 6, 2014.
celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power,
poignancy and passion that you will never forget. The beautiful young
Wendla explores her young life, brilliant and fearless Melchior defends his
buddy Moritz – a boy so traumatized by adolescence he can’t concentrate on
anything. One afternoon in the woods, Wendla and Melchior discover a
desire unlike anything they’ve ever felt. Spring Awakening explores
the confusion and desperation that ensue when the onrushing tide of life meets
the ignorance of adults. PARENTAL ADVISORY – Some material may not be suitable
for children under the age of 14.
The Dean College
production will take place in the Main Stage within the Campus Center from 7:30

Dean College will host Award Winning Spoken Word Poet/Performer,
Patricia Smith on campus Monday, April 7, 2014, as part of the School of
Liberal Arts and Sciences World of Ideas series.
Smith, lauded by critics as “a testament to the power of words to
change lives,” is the author of six acclaimed poetry volumes. Her work has appeared
in Poetry, The Paris Review, Granta, Tin House, TriQuarterly, Gulf
Coast and many of journals, and in dozens of groundbreaking
anthoogies—including Best American Poetry, Best American Essays,
Villanelles, The Incredibly Sestina Anthology and Angles of
Ascent: A Norton Anthology of Contemporary African-American Poetry. She
is the recipient of two Pushcart Prizes, for her poems "The Way Pilots
Walk" and “Laugh Your Troubles Away!” She is a Cave Canem faculty
member, a professor of English at CUNY/College of Staten Island and a faculty
member of the Sierra Nevada MFA program.
The World of Ideas is a year-long program initiative
designed to offer students a glimpse into the multi-faceted nature of the liberal
art and sciences. Programming includes lectures and presentations by faculty
as well as invited speakers and student run programs. The goal is to offer
opportunities for students to engage with limitless possibilities that are open
to them through learning.
The program will take place at
2:00 p.m. in the Atrium in the college campus center. A book
