      John Rooke Named Director of The Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management at Dean College

      Dean College, a private, residential college located in Franklin, Mass., welcomed John Rooke as director of The Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management and Distinguished Executive Faculty in the Schools of Business and the Arts.

      The Center was created by Dean College as an academic partnership with the Kraft Sports Group (KSG). It will provide opportunities for students to gain insight from KSG officials, including executives of the New England Patriots, New England Revolution and Patriot Place.

      "I'm thrilled to be a part of this initiative at Dean College,” said Rooke. “I am looking forward to working with the students to provide new educational experiences through our relationship with the Kraft Sports Group, including the Patriots and the Revolution. The students at Dean will be the real winners here.  It's a chance to learn from professionals in the sports and entertainment industries."

      Rooke is an award-winning broadcaster and a member of the 2011 class for the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame. He has more than 30 years of electronic, print and new media experience in large and small markets as well as at the network level. For the past 26 years, he has served as the play-by-play voice for Providence College basketball. Additionally, he has served as the public address announcer for the New England Patriots for the past 22 seasons. Rooke also serves as a featured columnist for Patriots.com and WEEI.com and has authored a book on the history of radio in Rhode Island entitled "Rhode Island Radio" (Arcadia Publishing, 2012).

      A 1981 journalism graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Rooke has held a position as adjunct professor at Emerson College in Boston. He has been named one of the top sports broadcasting instructors in the country by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America. Rooke also serves as a commercial voice artist and an auctioneer.

      The Dean Leadership Institute (DLI) invites you to attend its Executive Lecture Series on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 6:30 PM in the Guidrey Center.

      Dean College is honored to host Angela McKay, Director of the Government Security Policy and Strategy Team within Trustworthy Computing at Microsoft for this year’s lecture series. The Executive Series offers a unique and interactive opportunity for students, alumni and the local community to interact with today’s business leaders.

      Guest speaker, Angela McKay leads Microsoft’s public policy work on cybersecurity, cloud security, and norms, and on public sector use of cloud.  Her team includes professionals working on these topics across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S. She focuses on driving strategic change, both within Microsoft and externally, to advance trust in the computing ecosystem. 

      Ms. McKay combines technical expertise and public policy acumen to develop policies that improve security and stability of cyberspace, and support development, growth, and innovation.  She serves on the Board of Councilors for the East West Institute, a think tank focused on international conflict resolution, and as Microsoft’s Point of Contact for the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, which provides the President of the United States with recommendations to maintain reliable, secure, and resilient communications. 

      The speaking program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Guidrey Center at Dean College, 99 Main Street, Franklin, MA on January 24, 2017.

      The program is FREE and open to the public. Registration is required as seating is limited.

      The School of Continuing Studies at Dean College Announces Winter Intercession Courses

      The School of Continuing Studies at Dean College will offer Winter Intercession courses beginning Wednesday, December 21, 2016 for three-week courses with one-week courses beginning Monday, January 9, 2017. Accelerate your progress toward a degree or certificate program this winter by enrolling in one of Dean College’s one-week classroom or three-week online courses.These engaging classes are open to students of all ages and experience levels.

      Special one-week course topics include business negotiations, sales and marketing and a new course, Entertainment Industry Management, presented by Pawtucket Red Sox and WEEI Sports Radio.

      Dean College Men's & Women's Basketball Ranked in Top 15 USCAA Coaches Poll

      Dean College Men's & Women's Basketball Ranked in Top 15 USCAA Coaches Poll

      Men's and Women's Basketball are both ranked in the top 15 of the first USCAA Division I Coaches Poll for the year. The Men, at 6-4 and riding a two-game winning streak, are tied for 7th with Florida National University. The Women, at 7-4 and winners of 2 of their last 3, are 12th.

      Washington Adventist University leads the poll on the Men's side, while Concordia College Alabama sits in first for the Women.  

      This week is a busy week for both of Dean's basketball teams. The Women play at Wheelock on Tuesday, at Mitchell on Thursday, and home against Lesley on Saturday. The Men play at Wheelock on Tuesday, at Daniel Webster on Thursday and at Rivier on Saturday.
