      John Rooke Named Director of The Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management at Dean College

      Dean College, a private, residential college located in Franklin, Mass., welcomed John Rooke as director of The Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management and Distinguished Executive Faculty in the Schools of Business and the Arts.

      The Center was created by Dean College as an academic partnership with the Kraft Sports Group (KSG). It will provide opportunities for students to gain insight from KSG officials, including executives of the New England Patriots, New England Revolution and Patriot Place.

      "I'm thrilled to be a part of this initiative at Dean College,” said Rooke. “I am looking forward to working with the students to provide new educational experiences through our relationship with the Kraft Sports Group, including the Patriots and the Revolution. The students at Dean will be the real winners here.  It's a chance to learn from professionals in the sports and entertainment industries."

      Rooke is an award-winning broadcaster and a member of the 2011 class for the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame. He has more than 30 years of electronic, print and new media experience in large and small markets as well as at the network level. For the past 26 years, he has served as the play-by-play voice for Providence College basketball. Additionally, he has served as the public address announcer for the New England Patriots for the past 22 seasons. Rooke also serves as a featured columnist for Patriots.com and WEEI.com and has authored a book on the history of radio in Rhode Island entitled "Rhode Island Radio" (Arcadia Publishing, 2012).

      A 1981 journalism graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Rooke has held a position as adjunct professor at Emerson College in Boston. He has been named one of the top sports broadcasting instructors in the country by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America. Rooke also serves as a commercial voice artist and an auctioneer.

      Dean College Men's & Women's Basketball Ranked in Top 15 USCAA Coaches Poll

      Dean College Men's & Women's Basketball Ranked in Top 15 USCAA Coaches Poll

      Men's and Women's Basketball are both ranked in the top 15 of the first USCAA Division I Coaches Poll for the year. The Men, at 6-4 and riding a two-game winning streak, are tied for 7th with Florida National University. The Women, at 7-4 and winners of 2 of their last 3, are 12th.

      Washington Adventist University leads the poll on the Men's side, while Concordia College Alabama sits in first for the Women.  

      This week is a busy week for both of Dean's basketball teams. The Women play at Wheelock on Tuesday, at Mitchell on Thursday, and home against Lesley on Saturday. The Men play at Wheelock on Tuesday, at Daniel Webster on Thursday and at Rivier on Saturday.

      Dean College Administrative Offices Closed Wednesday through Friday, November 23-25, 2016

      Dean College administrative offices will be closed Wednesday through Friday, November 23-25, 2016 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

      Residence Halls will close Tuesday, November 22nd at 6:30 p.m. and will reopen on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 12:00 noon.

      Administrative offices will resume normal business hours beginning Monday, November 28, 2016.

      Dean College Men’s Soccer Season Ends at USCAA National Tournament

      The Dean College men’s soccer team ended their season with an outstanding 17-2 record.

      Franklin, MA (November 13, 2016) – The Dean College men’s soccer team ended their season with an outstanding 17-2 record. In its first year as a four-year program, the team earned an at-large bid as the number four seed in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s (USCAA) National Tournament held in Virginia Beach, Virginia November 10-14, 2016.

      The Bulldogs were placed in Pool D of the preliminary round with Florida National University, the fifth seed, and Berkeley College of New Jersey, the ninth seed.

      On Thursday, November 10th, Dean fell short to FNU with a final score of 2-1. Dean’s Justin Freitas scored with fifteen minutes to go in the contest.

      To advance to the semifinals on Sunday, the Bulldogs had to defeat Berkeley (NJ) on Friday, November 11th and Berkeley (NJ) had to defeat FNU on Saturday, November 12th.

      The Bulldogs soundly defeated Berkeley (NJ), 6-0. Pepe Vieira scored two goals to lead all Dean scorers as the Bulldogs raced to a 4-0 halftime lead. However, the outcome was not favorable for Berkeley (NJ), who were defeated on Saturday by FNU 6-0, ending Dean’s tournament journey.

      Besides their 16-1 record, the Dean Bulldogs were first in the USCAA in goals (99), assists (77) and goals against average (0.18), giving up only three goals all year.

      Additionally, four members of the team (Brendan Pacheco, Isaac DeSouza, Justin Freitas and Murilo Zanette) were recognized at the USCAA Championship banquet for making the Men’s Soccer National All-Academic Team.
