  • Region XXI Champions Looking to Repeat History

    The men’s basketball team reached new heights last year, capturing the Region XXI title as well as the district title over a very talented Monroe Community College squad. They look to return to the national tournament this year behind the play of first team all-region guard Charles Correa. Veteran Head Coach Rico Cabral comes on board after successful coaching stints at Massasoit Community College and Mt. Ida College. 

    The Dean College (22-2) men’s basketball team captured its second consecutive Region XXI title with an 88-66 win over the Community College of Rhode Island this past Sunday before a packed house at  Pieri Gymnsium. The win extended Dean’s school record of sixteen consecutive victories.  By winning the Region XXI title, the Bulldogs will now travel to Batavia, New York to take on the Region III champion, Genesee Community College. Genesee (22-8) advanced to the District championship game with a 75-74 win over Monroe Community College.  Monroe had entered the game as the third-ranked team in the latest NJCAA poll.  The winner of Saturday’s game at Geneseee will advance to the NJCAA Division II national championship, held at Danville Area Community College in Danville, Illinois, March 17-21.

    Jovel Beckford

    Jovel, a sophomore from Providence, RI,, was 17-of-20 from the floor, scoring 38 points over the course of two games, leading the men to two victories in the NHTI Classic. For his efforts, he was named the tournament MVP.
