Online Learning FAQs

  • Frequently Asked Questions about Dean College’s online business courses for working adults.

Is online learning right for me?

If you are self-motivated, self-disciplined, comfortable with technology, willing to be an independent learner and able to communicate well in writing then you are an ideal candidate for taking classes online.

If you have some or all of these traits and are still wondering if online learning is right for you, Dean offers a readiness-assessment tool that may answer your questions.

    How do online courses work?

Online courses through Dean College are designed to make learning more flexible for you. Offered in an asynchronous format, you do not need to be online at any specific time or day during the week. You can access course materials, class discussions and exercises online at times convenient for you. Everything, including discussions and coursework, is done electronically. All you have to do is log in using your computer and class is in session.

    Are online courses self-paced?

Although you are completing course work on your own time, you must follow the instructor’s timeline and turn in your work accordingly. Similar to classroom-based courses, your assignments, quizzes, projects and tests will have specific due dates. These dates will be clearly communicated to you at the beginning of the course so you will be able to budget your time effectively.

How do I interact with my classmates and instructor?

You will interact with classmates and instructors using a variety of web based platforms including chat rooms, discussion forums, e-mail and Skype.

How will I access my course?

Once you register for your first class, you will receive access to a secure personal online account with Dean that includes a Dean e-mail address. Through this account, you can access your courses, grades, transcripts and other important academic information.

    Are there software requirements?

Yes. If using a PC, it is highly recommended you are operating with Windows 7 or 8. If using a Mac, we recommend using IOS 10. For the internet, Internet Explorer 9 or above works best as well as Firefox or any version of Safari. Google Chrome is not recommended.

Does Dean offer any non-credit courses?

Dean offers non-credit courses via Ed2Go to target specific skills and interests.
