Residence Hall Association (RHA) is a residential student run organization whose purpose is to provide communication, education, leadership, and community development opportunities for students in the residence hall system. RHA serves as an organization providing academic, social and cultural activities for community development for all on campus residents. Through these programs and events, RHA creates a safe and welcoming campus environment along with building and strengthening bonds between residents and their community.

Q. How many residence halls are there?
 
Q. Are there staff who live in the buildings?
A. Yes! We have 11 professional staff members, known as Resident Directors, and 26 student staff members, known as Community Advisors.
  •  Resident Directors (RD) are live in staff members. They go through ongoing training to help students address issues such as: adjustment to college, roommate conflict, interpersonal conflict, academic concerns, etc.
  • Community Advisors are (CA) at Dean College is someone who wants to become a leader, wants to become involved in building a community, enforces and abides by the policies established on campus, and someone who wants to have fun and be a part of a team of highly motivated students. A CA is also a person who holds a minimum GPA of 2.2 and is a full time student.
Q. How do I choose where I live?
A. Your first two steps are to pay your deposit, then fill out your housing and dining application online. The housing application will ask you for information about your intended major, sports involvement, etc. This information will help us match you with a roommate(s). 
 
Q. What if I want a single?
A. Our single spaces are limited. We recommend that first year students live with a roommate. It is an important part of becoming an adult, however if there are circumstances that warrant a single (medical, etc.) you can indicate this on your housing application.If you want a single, and are not placed in one you may choose to go on the singles waiting list when you arrive on campus in September.
 
Q. What if I submit my housing and dining application and then want to change it?
A. If your preferences change, you may update your application online up until early July.

Q. When will I find out where I will be living?
A. You will receive an email (your DEAN COLLEGE EMAIL) with your roommate and housing information at the beginning of August.
 
Q. How do you place students?
A. We use a variety of information to place students:
  • Students are not placed until their bills have been cleared with Center for Student Administrative Services.
  • We then look at your preferences of residence halls.
  • After that we look at your answers from your housing application to match you with a roommate
 
Q. What comes standard in a residence hall room?
A. Every student will have their own bed (twin extra long), desk, desk chair, dresser, and closet (either built in or free standing).
  • The bed is length is 83.5 inches. The bed is raised 32 inches. This allows the dresser to fit under the bed, or for you to store other belongings if you wish.
  • The dresser is 26 inches high, and 30 inches wide. There are 3 drawers in the dresser.
  • The desk is 30 inches high, and 42 inches in length.
 
Q. Can students bring their own microwaves and refrigerators?
A. Yes. Microwaves must be less than 600 watts, and fridges must be a 3.6 cubic ft max. We recommend Energy Star items. For a complete list of what to bring click here.
 
Q. How do students arrange for cable and internet?
A. Cable is standard in all rooms on campus. Students must bring TVs that are equipped with a built in QAM tuner. Dean College provides wireless internet to all students. Students will receive instructions the day they move in on how to log onto the Dean College Network. (Please note you will receive your Dean College email once you deposit. At that time you will receive instructions on how to log into your email and Today@Dean)
 
Q. When will students learn what their mailing addresses are?
A. Students will receive their PMB number (Personal Mailbox Number) in their housing letter. All mail should be addressed in the following way:

Q. What happens if I lose my key?
A. You will need to come to Chapman House and fill out a form to have your locked changed. Your student account will be charged $75 for the lock change. Your roommates will also receive a new key (but will not be charged).
 
   

What else does Residence Life have to offer?

  • Residence Life staff hold programs in the hall that are fun and educational. Who doesn’t like a pizza party or a video game tournament? We also invite faculty in to help with study groups. Your CAs and RDs are always looking for ideas for programs.
  • Residence halls are equipped with kitchens, lounges, and plasma TVs!
  • Laundry facilities are either located in your hall or nearby. Every student is issued a laundry card during move in. You can then load this card with money in two places on campus. Load your laundry cards either in the Campus Center by the mailroom or in Dean Hall near Public Safety
