Dean is committed to providing full access to its educational programs for all qualified students.  The College actively pursues a nondiscriminatory policy and provides, at no cost, classroom and testing accommodations and assistive technology to students with documented disabilities.

Accommodations provided by the Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) may include:

• Extended time for testing
• Alternative locations for testing
• In-class scribes and note-takers
• Readers for tests
• Accessible classroom locations
• Suitable housing arrangement

DSS houses an Assistive Technology Lab, through which students with documented disabilities can access equipment and technology appropriate for their particular disability.  Equipment available includes: 

• Kurzweil 3000, a scanning and text reading software system
• Microsoft Speak, a speech recognition software system
• the JAWS screen reader
• Zoomtext 2, software to enlarge text with speech output
• adaptive keyboards and mousepads

To access services and accommodations through DSS, students must submit recent documentation of the disability and complete an intake with a member of the DSS staff.  In some cases, the College may require a three-month advance notification of the accommodation requested.
