RESIDENCE LIFE IS MORE THAN JUST "HOUSING" At Dean College special emphasis is placed on a student’s development. Helping students to recognize their ability to reason, to feel, to enjoy and to grow is part of the Dean College residential experience. You are encouraged to become actively involved in campus life and your "residence experience" at Dean.
Our goal is simple, yet extremely important: We are here to assist you in making your experience on campus meaningful, productive and enjoyable. Full-time professional Residence Life Staff and undergraduate Community Advisors live in the larger residence halls to assist students individually and collectively, while the smaller residences are staffed by part-time professional Resident Directors. These individuals make up the Residence Life "team.” The Office of Residence Life is located in Woodward House and is open Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
During Orientation, you will learn more about your role and responsibilities as a resident student and the numerous opportunities in which to get involved, such as RHA (Residence Hall Association) and/or becoming a Community Advisor (a position of responsibility offering monetary compensation).
ROOMMATES Roommates have a significant impact on one’s self-perception, communication, attitudes, academic achievement and study habits. Keeping this in mind, it is important that roommates are mutually compatible. Academic achievement and positive personal development are normally enhanced when roommates respect each other and are compatible.
An attempt is made to "match" people on a compatible basis. To best accomplish this, you are being asked to complete a questionnaire telling us about yourself (values, priorities, lifestyle), your interests and the type of housing you prefer. This information will assist us as we assign you and the individual who will be your roommate in a specific room. Please be honest in your answers. Should you wish to request a particular person as a roommate, we will consider honoring this request if all parties agree and all deposits have been submitted. (Please note that during placement, accommodating roommate requests will be dependent on availability). Confirmation of room assignments will be forwarded to you as soon as placements are finalized in July.
