How can I be seen at the Wellness Center?
Most students are seen on a walk-in basis for Health Services. If the volume of student visits is high, students will be asked to make an appointment later in the day.
How do I make an appointment?
Just stop by the little red house next to Woodward House or call ext.1600 during office hours. Speak with Teri to make a confidential appointment with one of the Nurse Practitioners. We make every effort to see you in a timely manner.
What do I do if I am sick and the Wellness Center is closed?
There is no overnight infirmary on campus. Students who become seriously ill or injured after hours should call Public Safety or go to the Emergency Room at Milford Regional Medical Center. Public Safety can be reached 24 hours/day at x1888. Public Safety Officers are trained to assess and evaluate students, can provide first aid, and can arrange for transportation to the emergency room, if necessary.

If the illness or injury is not an emergency, students are encouraged to wait until the Wellness Center opens for prompt evaluation and treatment. Students can also contact their own primary care provider (PCP). Students are encouraged to consult the online Student Self-Care Guide, which can provide valuable information to help with self-care and decision-making.
What if I need a prescription for medication?
The Nurse Practitioners are licensed to prescribe medications in the care of illnesses, injuries and general health care. Some over-the-counter medications for emergent care are available at the Wellness Center.
If the Nurse Practitioner prescribes a medication, how do I get it? Is there a pharmacy on campus?
There are no pharmacy services on campus. However, there are 5 pharmacies within a mile of Dean College. The closest pharmacy is CVS on West Central Street, a 1/2 mile from campus. The college also provides a daily shuttle service, which runs 4-5 times a day, to transport students to local services off campus. The pharmacies are all accessible on the shuttle runs.
Will I get billed if I visit the Wellness Center?
No, care received at the Wellness Center is free, no matter how many times you visit. If laboratory testing or x-rays are ordered, your health insurance will be billed by Milford Hospital for processing the tests. Depending on the type of health insurance you have, there may be a co-pay or deductible charged for these tests. All Dean College students are responsible for charges that are not covered by their health insurance.
Are my records confidential? Will anyone know that I have visited the Wellness Center?
All information is confidential and available only to staff of Health Services. Information regarding your care or visit can only be released with your written consent. More detailed information regarding confidentiality is available at the Wellness Center.
Can I get a medical excuse from the Wellness Center?
Medical excuses are not provided by the Wellness Center. Students are encouraged to speak with their advisor and/or professors in the event of an illness or absence. When necessary, the Wellness Center can verify a visit by providing a note to the student indicating that he/she was seen at the Wellness Center.
