Dean College Ranks Among the Top Best Regional Colleges

Dean College, a private, residential college located in Franklin, Massachusetts, has been ranked 22nd in the 2018 U.S. News & World Report for the Best Regional Colleges, North category. Additionally, Dean placed 15th in this category for Best Value Schools.

This is the seventh consecutive year that Dean College has received the honor.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by U.S. News and our peer institutions once again this year,” said Dr. Paula M. Rooney, Dean College President. “It signals the overall strength of Dean’s academic experience and the emphasis we place on student success.”

U.S. News & World Report is a multi-platform, publisher of news and information. The U.S. News ranking system for the Best Regional Colleges rests on two pillars. The formula uses quantitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality, and it is based on research of what matters in education, including: graduation rate performance, academic reputation, and financial selectivity among others.

This year’s ranking is a testament to The Dean Difference – the hands-on and engaging faculty & staff, strong academic support, valuable internships, and real-life workforce preparation that Dean College provides.

Dean College Receives NEH Grant to Transform Education in the Humanities

      08/02/2017

Dean College is among 245 recipients slated to receive a total of $39.3 million in grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)

Franklin, MA (August 2, 2017) – Dean College is among 245 recipients slated to receive a total of $39.3 million in grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) aimed at supporting vital research, education, and public programs in the humanities.

This is Dean College’s first grant application submitted and award received from NEH. The College plans to use the awarded funding to infuse the humanities into Core Distribution offerings by developing and piloting two courses in the history of science that incorporate hands-on labs: “History of Science” and “Henrietta Lacks: Medicine, Race, Class, and Gender in America.”

“Culture shapes science, and science shapes culture,” says Project Director and Associate Professor of History Dr. David Dennis. “From early ideas about the Earth’s place in the cosmos to popular attitudes toward climate change and cancer treatment, the humanities are essential for how we understand the past and present of modern scientific society. This project furthers the ongoing revitalization of the humanities for the twenty-first century at Dean College and beyond. The opportunity to combine history courses with lab science underscores Dean’s record of educational innovation. I look forward to working with science and humanities faculty, as well as external scholars, to bring this groundbreaking curriculum to our students.”

A full list of grant recipients can be found by visiting www.neh.gov.
