Dean College Ranks Among the Top Best Regional Colleges

Dean College, a private, residential college located in Franklin, Massachusetts, has been ranked 22nd in the 2018 U.S. News & World Report for the Best Regional Colleges, North category. Additionally, Dean placed 15th in this category for Best Value Schools.

This is the seventh consecutive year that Dean College has received the honor.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by U.S. News and our peer institutions once again this year,” said Dr. Paula M. Rooney, Dean College President. “It signals the overall strength of Dean’s academic experience and the emphasis we place on student success.”

U.S. News & World Report is a multi-platform, publisher of news and information. The U.S. News ranking system for the Best Regional Colleges rests on two pillars. The formula uses quantitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality, and it is based on research of what matters in education, including: graduation rate performance, academic reputation, and financial selectivity among others.

This year’s ranking is a testament to The Dean Difference – the hands-on and engaging faculty & staff, strong academic support, valuable internships, and real-life workforce preparation that Dean College provides.

Dean College Holds 151st Commencement, May 6, 2017

      05/06/2017

Dean College held its 151st Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

Dean College held its 151st Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Dean College campus in Franklin, MA. Over 350 students received their degrees, with a large number of family and friends in attendance. Continuing with tradition, the 2017 Commencement ceremony was held outside along Awpie Way.

The keynote address was provided by Dean College President, Dr. Paula M. Rooney, who encouraged students to never waiver from their dreams. “I hope you will take the insights, experiences, relationships and tools gained here – your can-do attitude and strong work ethic – in effect, your personal definition of The Dean Difference – to reach your dreams and, as Bulldogs, never settle and never lose sight of those dreams.” She reminded students that, “The Dean Difference doesn’t end as you exit with your diploma and begin your next chapter. I ask that you nurture that Difference.”

Additional remarks were provided by Mark D. Boyce, Chairman of the Dean College Board of Trustees, along with two graduating students, Karen Laven from Medway, MA and Valerie Davis from Brewster, NY.

Karen Laven was the first student speaker of the day. A Business Management major from Medway, Karen reflected on her journey at Dean. “In the fall of 2014, I made the decision to go back to school,” said Laven. “I wanted to teach my daughters perseverance; I wanted to keep going for my husband who took on the role of both dad and mom so that I could fulfill my dream; I wanted to keep going for my mother who sacrificed so much to come to the United States to give her family a better life,” she added. “And so, I stand before you today as proof that no matter where you are in your life, it is never too late to follow your dreams.”

Valerie Davis, a Theatre and Business Management double major from Brewster, NY began her speech with an interesting fact. “Do you know that, Sea otters hold hands when they sleep so that they do not drift apart? I’m telling you this because the world is filled with random, funny and interesting facts that we don’t know. Everyday we are constantly learning something new that will influence us and shape us to who we are – and that is what Dean has done for me.” She ended by urging students to “always hold onto your dreams like the otters hold on to each other, and never let them go.”
