What is your major? Why did you decide to pursue your selected major at Dean College?

I am a dance and English major. I originally came to Dean as a dance major. What really drew me into Dean’s dance program was the diversity that I found within the School of Dance. Not many schools offer ballet, modern, jazz, tap AND hip hop, and that was an important deciding factor in coming to Dean College. I added my English degree during my sophomore year.

What has been the best part of senior year at Dean?

The best part of my senior year has definitely been putting on a fashion show in the fall semester. Within my time at Dean, I have been able to create a business called LuBands By Liza. I partnered with SAC, Dance Team, Loose Screws Tap Team, Synergy, Pom Team and Step Team to put on a fashion show with products that I have made over the past two years. It was a unique experience to be able to collaborate with all our different dance teams on campus and give other students the opportunity to express themselves in a way they wouldn’t be able to on a typical day.

Is there a specific faculty/staff member that had a positive impact on your time here at Dean?

During my junior year at Dean College, I completed an internship with the Production and Operations Manager of the School of Dance and School of the Arts, Tracy Lane. I learned so much while interning with Tracy. She taught me many things about the work that she does, but most importantly she incorporated those aspects with life. I will always value the time I had learning under Tracy and will always look up to her as a mentor.

What was your favorite event (sports, club/org, holiday, academic, etc.) that you participated in during your time at Dean?

Project Green is a club that was created my junior year that advocates for mental health and addiction awareness. I have the privilege to be on the executive board of Project Green. Seeing this club grow from the ground up has been very inspiring. This club holds a special meaning in many student’s hearts around campus, so I love being a part of a community-involved club.

What was your all-time favorite meal at the dining center during your time at Dean?

I love Lisa Sandwich Days in the dining hall. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, Mrs. Lisa makes personalized sandwiches. There are so many options to choose from, which is why this is one of my favorite meals in the dining hall.

Who was the first friend you met during your first year at Dean and how did you meet?

Megan was my first friend that I met at Dean College. We met at our orientation and decided to be roommates during that event. Fast forward three years later, Megan and I are still roommates and best friends!

What advice would you give yourself as a freshman coming into Dean?

Audition for everything, try out as many clubs as you can and GET INVOLVED! Being involved on campus is an amazing way to meet new people and open doors for yourself during your time at Dean and beyond. Don’t second guess yourself based on other’s opinions. You can start fresh, so do it.

What does The Dean Difference mean to you?

The Dean Difference is unique to each student. To me, The Dean Difference means coming out of my shell and creating my own unique path. The people I’ve met at Dean have helped guide me to reach for my goals and taught me to never look back.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to move to Boston and get a job in the arts administration field. I am striving not to target one specific job, but instead apply for as many jobs as I can so I can keep my options open.

Check back every Wednesday for more Q&A’s with our graduating students!
