  • Looking to Repeat in 2015

    Womens BasketballThe women’s team will be coming back to school this fall looking to replicate their success from last year where they compiled a 17-6 record as Region XXI Champions. Second-year coach Grahm Smith has put together another strong recruiting class to make a concerted effort to return to district tournament in 2015.

    The women won the NHTI tournament this past weekend, defeating Eastern Maine CC on Saturday, 105-38, and advancing to the championship game. On Sunday, they disposed of Bunker Hill CC, 63-51, to capture the title for the 4th straight year. Janaysia James was named tournament MVP, scoring 48 points over 2 games. Sophia Corbitt had 18 points and 5 steals against Eastern Mine, while Victoria Nyugen had 16 points and 6 rebounds in the championship tilt. The women stay undefeated at 7-0, the best start for the women’s team since 2001-02.

    Janaysia, a sophomore from Perth Amboy, NJ, was named the MVP of the NHTI Tournament, Nov. 15-16. Over the two games, James scored 48 points, secured 17 rebounds and had 10 steals.
