Dear Dean Community,

I hope this message finds you well as we enjoy another beautiful New England summer. As each day passes, from events celebrating Dr. Paula M. Rooney on her amazing tenure to the announcement of my hiring as Dean’s first-ever Chancellor, we move one step closer to the beginning of the fall semester. There is nothing quite like the start of the school year and I am eager for it to arrive.

A few weeks ago, I officially joined the Dean College Community in my new role and began working with Dean’s fourteenth President Kenneth Elmore on this innovative approach to leadership. I sincerely want to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome. This is an exciting and humbling time for me with each day bringing more knowledge and insight into what makes Dean such a special institution. That starts with all of you.

I would like to thank the Admissions and Marketing staff members for welcoming me to the first floor of Ray House, Office of the Chancellor. It is a beautiful and historic building that represents so much of Dean’s past, present and future. I am humbled to be here and am eager to showcase this iconic space to all.

As a former member of the Dean College Board of Trustees for the past 9 years and having had the opportunity to engage with numerous alumni during that time, I was aware of and inspired by The Dean Difference. This respect continues to grow daily with everyone I meet and stories I hear. Dean is a wonderful place, and I am honored to serve as its Chancellor and caretaker.

I have spent more than 30 years in public service, including the last 8 years as City Manager for Worcester, MA. One of my primary goals during this period was to drive economic development while supporting educational opportunities for Worcester’s youth and modernizing city government making it more inclusive for all residents. I am proud of how fruitful these efforts were and am excited to capitalize on those experiences and relationships to explore new financial vehicles and expand opportunities for Dean.

In addition to improving the fiscal outlook for Worcester, I spent a great deal of time establishing an updated brand for the City. I would often say that Worcester was the second largest city in the Commonwealth and needed to act like it. Over time, we were able to share the many wonderful things occurring within our neighborhoods and as a result dramatically improved people's awareness and perception of our City.

As you all know, at Dean we will always go the extra mile for our students. This work ethic and can-do attitude provides our institution with a unique spirit and has resulted in an organizational foundation as strong as any I have ever seen. In my role as Chancellor, I am eager to continue building this foundation, telling Dean’s story, and increasing our brand profile locally, regionally, and beyond.

Much work lies ahead for us as we build upon this core to take Dean into its future. I am energized by all of you and look forward to hearing your thoughts on different opportunities to pursue to best enrich the Dean Community. To schedule a time to meet with me, please contact

Thank you again for your passion and dedication to Dean. Together, we can all accomplish amazing things.
