    Alumni Spotlight Matt Walsh 2

The Alumni Spotlight features weekly Q&A with past students to give YOU an inside perspective on life after Dean College!

Matt Walsh graduated in 2010 with a bachelor degree in business with a concentration of sport management. Read on to learn more about Matt!

Where are you currently employed? What industry is it in?

I work in the professional sports industry for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club (MLB) in Arlington, TX.

What is your job title and how long have you been in your current position?

I have been working as an Account Executive for a year and a half.

Tell us about your job. What are some of the duties and activities you are responsible for?

My main responsibilities are the sales of long term suite leases at our ballpark and season ticket package sales. We work to make the fan experience as great as possible.

What is the best and worst part of your job?

The best part of my job is working for a professional sports organization. The worst part is probably the long hours which keeps me from visiting back home in Boston as often as I'd like.

How did Dean College prepare you for your career?

Dean College prepared me by allowing me the chance to work under then athletic director John Jackson and Football coach Todd Vasey. These two men gave me my first glimpse into the off-the-field side of the sports industry at the college level. That propelled me into my next phase of my early career at the Division 1 level at the University of North Texas.

Does your place of employment offer internships? If so, how can our current students find out about these opportunities?

Yes. All MLB teams offer internships which usually hire in the late fall/early winter. Checking the employment page of any pro-sports team along with the job board at www.teamworkonline.com are the best ways. Going the extra mile by reaching out to someone in a particular department you wish to intern in always helps as well.

As a Dean College graduate, you'll always be an important member of the Dean community. Whether you graduated five years ago or 50, you have lifelong access to networking events, sporting events, job opportunities and much more.
