Robert Going

  • Major: Theatre

Bob's Story: "After leaving Dean I attended Adelphi University and received a BFA in Theater Tech and Design. I immediately moved to New York City to begin freelancing. I worked largely as an electrician and programmer in theater, learning everything I could about the business and working with many of the best lighting designers in the business. Eventually I started programming bigger shows and have branched out into other areas like special events and TV. In the past year I've gone to La Jolla Llayhouse in California to program a large musical, which is in talks of moving to Broadway and to Hong Kong to reprogram a Philip Glass Opera. In 2007 I designed the lights for Dean's fall musical and the next two years I did the same. In 2010 I helped open the new theater by lighting three shows in it's first season. The following year I did all four."

Favorite Campus Memory: "This probably changes every time that I come to work on a show because I'm always inspired by the students' innocent excitement for the arts."

Success: "I am a freelance lighting designer and moving light programmer for theatre, special events and television.
