What is Dean College’s application process like?
Dean uses a holistic review process. This means when we evaluate applications, we consider a variety of materials (academic performance, coursework, extracurriculars, optional essays, recommendations, etc.) to understand both who you are as a student and as a person.
What are the application deadlines?
Fall Semester (beginning in September):
- November 1: Early Action Priority Deadline
- December 1: Early Action Deadline
- March 15: Priority Admissions Deadline
- Rolling Admissions after March 15
Spring Semester (beginning in January):
- December 1: Priority Admissions Deadline
- Rolling Admissions after December 1
Is standardized testing required?
Can I submit optional materials like essays or recommendations?
Yes. Essays, letters of recommendation, and other supplemental or optional documents are welcome, but not required. If submitted, they do help give us more insight into who you are when making an admissions decision.
FOR SPECIFIC APPLICANT TYPES
What should transfer students know?
Transfer applicants must submit official college transcripts, a Transfer Student Status Report, a high school transcript or equivalent, and any optional materials you'd like to include (such as essays or recommendations). Test scores remain optional.
How many transfer credits will Dean accept?
For part‑time/continuing studies, up to 30 credits toward an associate degree and up to 90 credits toward a bachelor’s degree. The courses must have grades of C‑ or better. CLEP credits are also considered.
How do international or non-U.S. transcripts work?
International students or students whose coursework is outside the U.S. must provide transcripts translated into English, and if needed, have them evaluated by a recognized agency such as WES (World Education Services) or AACRAO.
What about homeschooled students / students with alternative high school credentials?
Homeschooled students, those with GED or HSE, or other equivalent credentials are welcome to apply. You’ll need to submit your documentation accordingly.
Are there special requirements for certain performing arts programs?
Yes. Students applying to Dance or Theatre must audition and submit a photo and performance résumé. Review Audition Requirements

FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS
What do I need to do to be considered for financial aid?
To be eligible for most financial aid, you’ll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
What is the “Early Action Scholarship?”
Dean College offers a $2,000 Early Action Scholarship for accepted students who applied by the December 1 Early Action Deadline (for both first‑year and transfer students).
How do I get considered for a merit scholarship?
Every applicant is automatically considered for a Dean merit scholarship. No additional applications are required.

Do you offer virtual visits or campus tours?
Yes – Dean offers both in‑person and virtual visits. You can schedule a campus tour, attend virtual events, and meet with admission counselors online.
