Apply as an International Student

Which Type of Student Are You?
- International first-year student: You are completing secondary school or have not attempted college coursework after completing secondary school.
- International transfer student: You attempted college- or university-level coursework after completing secondary school.
International transfer students must complete the general international requirements and the additional transfer requirements noted below.
Your Application Checklist
Required for All International Applicants:
- A Dean College Application or the Common Application
- Official academic records in English
- Proof of English-language proficiency, if applicable
- A copy of the photo identification page of your passport
- Documentation of financial support
Optional
- SAT or ACT scores
- Letters of recommendation
- A personal statement or essay
Dean is test optional. The submission of SAT or ACT standardized test scores is not required at Dean. If you believe that your test results are a good reflection of your potential for success, you are welcome to submit them. Choosing not to submit scores will not negatively affect your admission or scholarship consideration. Dean’s College Board (SAT) code is 3352. Our ACT code 1816.
Optional materials such as an essay or recommendation can help us learn more about your experiences, interests and goals.
Academic Records
Submit official secondary school records showing your courses and grades from the most recent three to four years. Please also provide official copies of any national examination results, certificates or diplomas.
All documents must be submitted in English. Records issued in another language should be accompanied by an official English translation.
English-Language Proficiency
If English is not your first language, submit results from one of Dean’s accepted English-language proficiency examinations, including:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language - The Dean College code is 3352)
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
- Duolingo
- Pearson Test of English
- PEXT Pearson Express Test
- Cambridge Assessment of English
- ITEP
- GTEC
- Password
- The Manchester Exam
English-Language Support
Students who need additional English-language support may be eligible for Dean’s International Student FOCUS Program, which combines English-language instruction with credit-bearing coursework.
Passport Identification Page
Submit a copy of your passport photo identification page so we can confirm your legal name and date of birth.
Documentation of Financial Support
U.S. immigration regulations require international students to demonstrate that they have sufficient financial resources to cover one year of attendance at Dean College (estimated at U.S. $75,000 for the 2026/27 academic year). This amount can be adjusted for those receiving merit-based scholarships that range from $20,000 to $32,000 per year.
To document your financial support, please submit one of the following:
- Dean’s Declaration of Finances form; or
- An official bank letter and supporting bank statement confirming the availability of funds
Financial documents must:
- Be written or translated into English
- Show funds in U.S. dollars
- Be officially signed
- Be dated within six months of the start of classes
The admissions office reserves the right to request additional information to assist with your application review.
Receiving Your Form I-20
Dean can issue your Form I-20 after you have:
- Been admitted to Dean
- Paid your enrollment deposit
- Submitted your passport identification page
- Submitted acceptable documentation of financial support
Keep copies of all documents you submit. You may need them when applying for your student visa and entering the United States.
Additional Requirements for International Transfer Students
International transfer students must also submit:
- An official transcript from every college or university attended
- A Transfer Student Status Report from every college or university attended
College or university coursework completed outside the United States must be translated into English and evaluated by a Dean-approved credential-evaluation service, such as World Education Services, the Center for Educational Documentation, or American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).

Some programs have requirements beyond the general application:

Fall admission
- November 1: Early Action Priority Deadline
- December 1: Early Action Deadline
- March 15: Priority Admission Deadline
- After March 15: Applications considered on a rolling basis
Spring admission
- December 1: Priority Admission Deadline
- After December 1: Applications considered on a rolling basis
Early Action Scholarship
Apply by December 1 to be considered for Dean’s $2,000 Early Action Scholarship. No separate scholarship application is required.
Note: International students are encouraged to apply early to allow adequate time for financial documentation, the Form I-20 and the student-visa process.
