For the past century and a half, Dean College has energized campus life
through traditions, ranging from Thanksgiving Dinner to Commencement, that connect current students with the College’s rich
history. We pride ourselves on these traditions, listed below in
Convocation serves as the formal
beginning of the academic year. Every
September, first-year students walk in procession across campus as a class and are
ceremoniously welcomed into each academic school. After the ceremony the first-year students
join the rest of the College Community for a barbecue.
We cannot think of a better way to introduce the students of Dean College to the local community establishments of Franklin than with the Tasteof Franklin! This program is in September and local restaurants are invited to provide samples of the best each has to offer for students to sample. Menus and Dean College specials are given out by the businesses. It’s a great way for students to connect to the local community.
For the past 17 years, alumni, parents, vendors and friends of Dean
College have come together to raise money to benefit the Dean Scholarship Fund.
Each fall Dean College
welcomes to campus the family and friends of our current students along with
all of our alumni. Family & Alumni Day features athletic games, a cookout, class
reunions and entertainment for all ages!
Held each fall semester, this annual conference is the beginning of
students' leadership journey at Dean. Presentation topics vary per year, but the idea of building a strong
leadership foundation for students is the same. This also provides students with the ability to network with staff
members from colleges around New England.
Members of the Dean College
Community — alumni, students, faculty, staff and community members — join
together each year at the Veterans Memorial Wall along Awpie Way to honor those
who have and are currently serving our country.
A week prior to students leaving for Thanksgiving Break, Sodexo makes a wonderful
spread featuring everyone’s Thanksgiving favorites. The meal is served to students by the faculty
and staff. This dinner is always a crowd
pleaser as students wait in line to be served and always come up for seconds.
It’s a little fun before
the semester is done! During the last
days of the fall semester, the Student Activities Committee (SAC) sponsors Winter Days, which is two days and two nights
filled with fun activities ranging from a cappuccino bar to indoor roller
skating to the annual tree lighting. Winter Days serves as a way to celebrate
the end of the semester and to get ready for finals week.
The annual Tree Lighting is the kick-off to the
town of Franklin’s Holiday Stroll. The
Dean College community and residents from the town of Franklin all gather on
Awpie Way to listen to music and enjoy each other’s company. The lighting of the tree not only welcomes
the season, but brings everyone together to share in good cheer.
During each week of finals
the faculty and staff, along with the assistance from Sodexo, serve up pancakes,
tater tots, eggs and more at the Late
Night Breakfast. This event is one of the most anticipated activities each
semester and it allows the students to see the faculty and staff outside of
their normal roles and connect on a different level.
