When Boston Legacy FC kicked off its inaugural season against Gotham FC on March 14 it was the voice of Dean College freshmen Ava J. Membreno heard over the loudspeakers at Gillette Stadium. Membreno, a Sports Broadcasting major, was recently selected to be the Legacy’s Public Address (PA) Announcer as they begin play in the National Women’s Soccer League.

A native of Attleboro, Massachusetts, Membreno will serve as the matchday voice for the club’s 15-game home schedule, announcing pregame activities, starting lineups, in-game action, and special presentations. The role places her at the center of the live stadium experience for one of professional women’s soccer’s newest franchises.

As PA announcer, Membreno will further collaborate with the team’s game production staff to script and deliver matchday elements, engage fans through crowd participation and chants, and maintain a lively, responsive atmosphere inside Gillette. The position requires strong crowd awareness, adaptability during live game situations, and the ability to connect with audiences in real time.

For the aspiring broadcaster, the opportunity represents a major early-career milestone.  Within the Dean community, her accomplishment is already being celebrated as a powerful example of what students can achieve when they combine ambition, preparation, and access to real-world opportunities.

“Ava’s achievement is an outstanding example of what happens when talent meets opportunity,” said John Rooke, Director of Dean’s Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management. “She came to Dean with the dream of learning the craft of sports broadcasting and calling games—and she’s already doing it in her first year of study.”

A graduate of Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School in Franklin, Massachusetts, Membreno chose Dean for its hands-on opportunities and connections to regional professional sports organizations.  Since 2011, the College has served as the exclusive academic partner for Kraft Sports + Entertainment.

Her selection by Boston Legacy FC comes as the club begins building what it describes as a championship-caliber organization in women’s professional soccer, making Membreno one of the voices helping shape the matchday experience from the franchise’s very first season.

"I'm extremely excited for this opportunity," says Membreno. "Working in soccer and women's sports has been an aspiration of mine for years now. Having the chance to grow the game in my home state means more than words can describe."
