Dean College Welcomes New VP to Lead Student-Centered Athletics and Recreation Programs

Dean College is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoffrey Lerner as Vice President of Athletics and Recreation. A seasoned athletics administrator, educator, and coach, Lerner brings more than a decade of experience leading inclusive, student-centered programs at the collegiate and secondary levels. In this new role, he will report directly to the president and serve as a member of the College’s senior leadership team.
As vice president, Lerner will oversee all varsity athletics and campus recreation, with a focus on fostering a vibrant, supportive environment where students can grow as athletes, leaders, and members of the Dean community.
“We are thrilled to welcome Geoffrey to the Dean community,” said Darrell Kulesza, interim President of Dean College. “His leadership experience across multiple institutions, strategic mindset, and unwavering commitment to equity and student development make him the ideal person to guide our athletics and recreation programs forward. Geoffrey brings both energy and vision to this role, and we’re excited to see the positive impact he will make across our campus.”
Lerner most recently served as athletic director at Prospect Hill Academy Charter School in Cambridge, MA, where he led a growing athletic department that supported more than 15 interscholastic sports and campus recreation programs. He directed staff development, advanced academic and leadership support for student-athletes, and implemented initiatives designed to increase access and engagement. Under his leadership, the program saw notable gains in student retention, participation, and performance, reflecting his belief in athletics as a powerful tool for student success.
He has also held leadership and coaching roles at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology and Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he managed operations including compliance, budgeting, academic monitoring, and game-day coordination. These experiences, both on the field and behind the scenes, give him a well-rounded perspective on what students and teams need to thrive.
Lerner holds a Master of Science in Physical Education from Hofstra University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Studies from Ithaca College. He is a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and holds a Massachusetts professional educator license in physical education.
“It’s a privilege to join Dean College at such a pivotal moment,” said Lerner. "I’m excited to collaborate with students, coaches, and campus partners to elevate the athletic and recreation experience. Together, we’ll build programs that not only drive success on the field but also foster leadership, resilience, and a strong sense of community."
Lerner will officially begin his role in early August. For more information on athletics at Dean College, please visit deanbulldogs.com.
