    Sarah Masry Cheerleading

Dance major Sarah Masry ’18 just finished her rookie season as a Patriots Cheerleader. With the 2018 Patriots Cheerleaders Auditions right around the corner, we thought we’d check in with Sarah to learn more about her experience this past season and the audition process. Read on to learn more!

    Q. How was your first season as a Patriots Cheerleader? What was your most memorable experience of the season?

My first season as a Patriots Cheerleader was absolutely incredible! From participating in a swimsuit calendar photoshoot in Aruba, to attending an NFL game in Mexico and dancing on the sidelines for the best team in the NFL, I had so many memorable experiences. But by far, my most memorable experience was attending Super Bowl LII. There was no better feeling than running onto the field and feeling the energy of everything and everyone around me. I was able to perform on the biggest stage I could dream of, and had the time of my life doing what I love on that field. No matter the outcome of the game, I will cherish that feeling for the rest of my life.

    Q. What kind of things did you do to prepare yourself for auditions mentally/physically?

Last year when I auditioned for the Patriots Cheerleaders for the first time, I tried to think about what I had to do to put my best foot forward during the audition process. Eating healthy and working out on a regular basis helped boost my confidence and made me feel much better about auditioning. Mentally, I tried to tell myself that the worst case was that I would not make the team, and I could try again next year. I tried to keep myself calm, focus on the choreography, and made sure my confidence and personality would shine through.

    Q. How do you feel that your training as a dance student at Dean has prepared you for professional auditions?

Dean has helped me feel more confident at auditions because I have learned how an audition works, how to prepare a resume and headshot for an audition, and learned the mental aspect of competing with other people for the same position. I have also learned how to work as a professional in the dance field and interview for a professional dance job.

    Q. What advice would you give to other dancers who want to audition for the Patriots Cheerleaders or any professional organization?

If I could give one piece of advice to someone who wants to audition for the Patriots Cheerleaders, I would say to be confident in everything you do and wear something you feel comfortable and confident in. If you shine and feel great on the inside, it will definitely show on the outside.

The preliminary auditions for the 2018 Patriots Cheerleaders will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 in the Pieri Gymnasium at Dean College, 99 Main Street Franklin.
