Dean College

  • Dean College Hosts First New Student Orientation of the Summer

    NSO I 2018

On Monday, June 25th through Tuesday, June 26th, Dean College welcomed the incoming class and their families for the first New Student Orientation (NSO) of the summer!

NSO is a day and a half long program (including an overnight stay in one of the residence halls) that is designed to prepare enrolled students for a successful introduction to college. The program familiarizes students and their families with the academic support, technology services, and residence life options available on campus. Students also have the chance to meet our faculty and staff, connect with other Dean students, and make lots of new friends!

The day began with Dean College President Dr. Paula M. Rooney welcoming students and families to campus along with other members of the staff and faculty. Afterwards, students broke out into groups with their designated Orientation Leader (OL) staff where they were able to meet other students.

Throughout the next day and a half, students and families attended a variety of information sessions on topics such as preparing for college life, residence life, learning support, athletics, clubs and organizations, study away opportunities, internships, financial aid, the honors program, and more.

Additionally, students were able to bond with one another during activities and games such as a scavenger hunt, team competitions to win prizes, and Dean After Dark, a program where students were able to experience some of our most popular late-night events such as bingo, karaoke, a hypnosis show, basketball, and playing games in Boomer’s.

Dean will be hosting two additional orientation sessions this summer. Join us for NSO II on Thursday, June 28 to Friday, June 29, or NSO III on Thursday, July 12 to Friday, July 13.
