    Dean Gives Back 1

The season of giving is upon us and our Bulldogs are ready for the challenge! Dean has numerous opportunities each month for students, faculty, and staff to get involved with the community and give back.

Since the start of the fall semester over 1,300 hours of community service have been spent volunteering with charities like Meals on Wheels, Franklin Food Pantry, American Red Cross, and Operation Gratitude; along with cleaning up and beautifying parks in Franklin.

Every Thursday you can find our students assisting at the Franklin Food Pantry and unloading their food supply truck. As Thanksgiving is upon us, a group of students also helped this past Thursday with preparations for the holiday. Dean gives back 2

“On our list of what we are grateful for this Thanksgiving is an amazing partnership with Dean College,” said Erin Lynch, executive director of the Franklin Food Pantry. “Collectively students have moved thousands of pounds of food into our pantry to help the families we serve,” she added. “Dean students have truly embraced the spirit of volunteerism in our community and it is wonderful to see.”

Our troops are also celebrated by students via charity activities like Operation Gratitude, where leftover Halloween candy is sent out to our soldiers, and a card initiative, where handwritten cards are sent.

Franklin Senior Center members are invited on campus each semester to participate in cross-generational opportunities in classes, adding their unique perspectives to discussions.

Many older Franklin residents take joy in assisted living facility visits from our students, where they can enjoy a variety of activities including games and crafts. Students also provide handwritten notes to accompany Meals on Wheels throughout the year.

The Giving Tree can be found on campus as of November 12, an initiative with the Santa Foundation. These trees have specific gifts listed on ornament tags that will provide gifts for families in need during the holiday season. Approximately 90 children are helped each year by the Dean community.

This is only a small snapshot of our Dean community’s kindness and generosity.
