      John Rooke Named Director of The Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management at Dean College

      Dean College, a private, residential college located in Franklin, Mass., welcomed John Rooke as director of The Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management and Distinguished Executive Faculty in the Schools of Business and the Arts.

      The Center was created by Dean College as an academic partnership with the Kraft Sports Group (KSG). It will provide opportunities for students to gain insight from KSG officials, including executives of the New England Patriots, New England Revolution and Patriot Place.

      "I'm thrilled to be a part of this initiative at Dean College,” said Rooke. “I am looking forward to working with the students to provide new educational experiences through our relationship with the Kraft Sports Group, including the Patriots and the Revolution. The students at Dean will be the real winners here.  It's a chance to learn from professionals in the sports and entertainment industries."

      Rooke is an award-winning broadcaster and a member of the 2011 class for the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame. He has more than 30 years of electronic, print and new media experience in large and small markets as well as at the network level. For the past 26 years, he has served as the play-by-play voice for Providence College basketball. Additionally, he has served as the public address announcer for the New England Patriots for the past 22 seasons. Rooke also serves as a featured columnist for Patriots.com and WEEI.com and has authored a book on the history of radio in Rhode Island entitled "Rhode Island Radio" (Arcadia Publishing, 2012).

      A 1981 journalism graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Rooke has held a position as adjunct professor at Emerson College in Boston. He has been named one of the top sports broadcasting instructors in the country by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America. Rooke also serves as a commercial voice artist and an auctioneer.

      Dean College School of Dance Presents: Choreographers Concert, February 10-11, 2017

      The Palladino School of Dance at Dean College will perform a Choreographers’ Concert on Friday, February 10, 2017 and Saturday, February 11, 2017.

      Renowned guest artists from the Manhattan Dance Project will view selected student works and give insightful feedback to our student choreographers in our version of “So You Think You Can Choreograph.”

      Friday night’s performance will be presented as a straight concert without interruptions, whereas Saturday’s concert will feature live commentary from our guest artists and will be preceded by a preconcert lecture at 7 p.m.

      The Choreographers’ Concert will take place in the Main Stage within the Campus Center at Dean College, 99 Main Street, Franklin at 8:00 p.m. both nights.  For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.dean.edu/boxoffice.

      Dean College Announces Appointment of Dean of the School of Business

      Dean College Appoints Dr. P. Gerard Shaw as Dean of the School of Business

      Dean College is pleased to announce that Dr. P. Gerard Shaw has accepted appointment as the Dean of the School of Business.

      Having taught and provided leadership in multiple capacities at Dean first as an adjunct and since 2005 as a full-time faculty member, Dr. Shaw brings to this role the skills and commitment to take the School of Business to the next level. “His love of Dean is so obvious it almost goes without saying,” says Vice President of Academic Affairs, Michael Fishbein. 

      In addition to his new role, he also serves as the Director of the Dean Leadership Institute, which offers students, alumni and the local community the opportunity to interact with today’s business leaders. “Gerry’s labor of love is the Dean Leadership Institute, through which he has brought 75 senior business leaders to campus to share their insights with our Community.”

      In addition to his roles at Dean, Dr. Shaw's career has included serving as a Vice President of Student Affairs, working as a consultant in the Higher Education Consulting practice at Coopers & Lybrand and co-founding his own consulting practice.

      Believing that service to the community is vital, Dr. Shaw has served on the Board of Directors for the Hockomock Area YMCA for more than 15 years. He has served on the Development Committee at the Providence Country Day School, and taught CCD at his local parish.

      Prior to earning a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Boston College, he earned an M.A. in Systematic Theology from Washington Theological Union; an M.S. in Human Resources from Biscayne College; and a B.S. in Accounting from Villanova University.

      The School of the Arts at Dean College will perform Senior Showcase on Friday, January 27 – Saturday, January 28, 2017.

      Creating a performance from the ground up, our talented senior dance students share their choreography, performance and production expertise in this collaborative show.

      Dean College is looking forward to the start of our spring semester! Move-In begins on Monday, January 16, 2017

      Dean College looks forward to the start of our spring semester.

      Returning Resident students should report to campus on Monday, January 16th and pick up their keys in their residence halls. ALL STUDENTS arriving between 4:30-5:00 p.m. must check in at the Campus Center.

      New student check-in is scheduled from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the campus center.

      Commuter students who have been financially cleared may go directly to their first registered class on Tuesday, January 17th.
