Dean College Men’s Soccer Final Results USCAA National Tournament, November 9-13, 2017

The Dean College Men’s Soccer team finished their USCAA National Tournament run on Sunday, November 12th, falling to Bryant & Stratton in the semifinals.

The team defeated Florida College in the first round, followed by SUNY-ESF in the second round of the tournament, but came up short on game three.

      Semifinal Recap:

In what turned out to be a marathon match that took more than three hours to complete, the Bulldogs best scoring chance came in the 62nd minute when Cristiano Martins (Brockton, Mass.) chased down a ball and sent a sliding pass across the box to Felipe Campos (Barnstable, Mass.) but his shot sailed over the crossbar.

The match was incredibly physical with 18 fouls called and 13 yellow cards being assessed.

Bryant & Stratton looked as if they might get on the board in regulation a few times but Nathan Silveira (East Providence, R.I.) was able to make several spectacular stops, including one late in regulation that he was able to deflect over the crossbar.

In the extra sessions, the Bobcats depth began to show as they controlled play in both ten minute periods, outshooting the Bulldogs 10-0 in that time frame.

Both teams came out scoring on their penalty kicks and Dean was 8-for-8 until their ninth shooter was turned aside by a fantastic save from backup netminder Edixon Castillo, which set the stage for McGibbons' heroics.

For the Bulldogs, they see their five-match winning streak and their season come to an end in what can be considered an instant classic.

Overall, the Cardinal and White finish at 16-1-3, won a share of the regular season conference title, advanced to the national semifinals and had four student-athletes earn All-America honors.

The School of the Arts at Dean College will perform Scapino! beginning Thursday, October 25 through Sunday, October 28, 2018.

Inspired by the French playwright Molière’s original 1671 play, Les Fourberies de Scapin, Frank Dunlop and Jim Dale have heightened Molière’s comedy with slapstick and burlesque, resulting in a story of the most engaging nonsense. Set in contemporary Naples, Italy, two sons, two daughters, and two fathers find themselves mixed up in the crafty Scapino’s plot to solve romantic problems faced by two of his friends. A fast-talking, quick-thinking scamp, Scapino cleverly manipulates and cajoles everyone into doing what he intends them to do.

The Dean College production of Scapino! will take place in the Main Stage in the Campus Center at Dean College, 109 West Central Street, Franklin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday – Saturday and 2:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. General admission is $22, Seniors $12 and Children $7.

      09/10/2018

Dean College ranks 23rd in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report for Best Regional Colleges, North category.

Dean College, a private, residential college located in Franklin, Massachusetts, has been ranked 23nd in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report for the Best Regional Colleges, North category. Additionally, Dean placed 12th in this category for Best Value Schools.

This is the eighth consecutive year that Dean College has received the Best College honor and 3rd consecutive year for Best Value.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by U.S. News and our peer institutions once again this year,” said Dr. Paula M. Rooney, Dean College President. “It signals the overall strength of Dean’s academic experience and the emphasis we place on student success.”

U.S. News & World Report is a multi-platform, publisher of news and information. The U.S. News ranking system for the Best Regional Colleges rests on two pillars. The formula uses quantitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality, and it is based on research of what matters in education, including: graduation rate performance, academic reputation, and financial selectivity among others.

This year’s ranking is a testament to The Dean Difference – the hands-on and engaging faculty & staff, strong academic support, valuable internships, and real-life workforce preparation that Dean College provides.
