Every week, we’re showcasing our graduating students as they prepare to say goodbye to Dean. On each #TransformationTuesday or #FavoriteMemoryFriday, you’ll get a before and after look at where they started vs. where they are now. Next up is Lucy Young '24, an Arts and Entertainment Management and Technical Theatre double major.

Q: How has your experience at Dean shaped you?

Before arriving at Dean, I didn't think I had the leadership qualities I did. I didn't see myself becoming a leader until potentially my senior year, but instead, I was a student leader by the beginning of my sophomore year. I am so much more confident in my abilities as a leader, and it has been so helpful to be in an environment where you're allowed to explore what it means for you to be a leader and also help others become leaders.

Q: What is your favorite memory from your time at Dean?

For the last three years, I have been a tutor in the writing center, and it has truly been one of my favorite things that I have ever done. From our amazing director, Dawn Mendoza, to the other student tutors, I will always cherish those memories of our weekly meetings and the students I have tutored over the years.

Q: How has Dean prepared you for the future?

I feel as though Dean has taught me to always keep learning and exploring. From my history classes with Rob Lawson to my theatre courses with the School of the Arts faculty, I have always been pushed to learn more than what I already knew, and I feel like this is what is going to help me as I step into the workforce.

Check back throughout the semester as we profile members of the Class of 2024 and see how far they’ve come throughout their time at Dean!
