Arts and Entertainment Management Expectations and Information

  • Learn the Business Side of the Arts

AMGT ImageThe Arts and Entertainment Management program at Dean College emphasizes the practical side of the arts. Students with a passion for the arts and a talent for organization will find a commitment to the vast employment opportunities in all of the creative industries through this program: theatre, dance, media (TV, Radio, Film, and Internet), music recording, classical music, circus and tours, venue management, event planning, museum management and themed entertainment.

Arts and Entertainment is a global, multi-billion dollar industry and Dean College’s program prepares students to become leaders, managers and integral members of arts organizations. Students gain hands-on experience by managing student music, theatre, dance, and arts productions.

Our program is ideal for those who want to be involved in the Arts and Entertainment Industry but are not necessarily focused on being an artist or performer. It is also beneficial for those who plan to pursue artistic careers and want to understand the “business side” of the arts so they can manager their own careers, understand the organizations that hire artists or even prepare to accept administrative work between artistic projects.

At Dean, you will learn how to start your own creative business and decide whether a not-for-profit or for-profit business model best suits your needs and goals.

    Specialized Theme Park Management Course

Additionally, Dean students have the opportunity to take our new Theme Park Management course. This unique program combines on-campus study with experiential learning within the theme park environment. During the semester students examine the business structure, management issues, safety regulations, design, and promotional needs specific to the themed entertainment industry. A mid-semester faculty guided trip to Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando Florida, provides the “backstage experience” which includes tours and leadership training provided by theme park employees. The course provides a powerful learning, participatory, and reflective experience that has proven to inspire Dean Students to consider an exciting career path in themed entertainment.
